drag racing yesturday..........rant thread

okie...so yeah i know i complain about my car A LOT. and im sure it gets tiring for some (sorry).... but yesturday i was at a drag event.

i had a set of brand new slicks....so i heated the shi@t out of them. i launched at 7500..my car launched the way its supposed toshot forward and i was off ..i saw my r/t .108 on the board (crappy but okie for first pass on the new slicks) then i saw my 1.9 60ft (could be better but again, new slicks...would improve as the day went on)...... i was feeling pretty good about this run and then as im about to shift to 3rd.....

tach started acting erratic and car was loosing power and sputtering. made it thru the traps with a 14.001 () and the car died. couldnt start it...i made it off the actual track into the turn off lanes and popped the hood. *sigh*
alternator belt gonners.....oil around the crank and CELs 8, 9, & 15. pushed the car back to the pit and started pulling it apart.

so....after inspecting it...looks like........i launched too hard, alt belt jumped spun and hit the crank sensor (TDC...5th gens have it at the crank not in the dizzy).....from seeing the oil in the crank area im also assuming that the crank seal went....and i can only for now assume it has to do with my launch and the crank walking . i got the car running....fixed code 9 & 15....and cleared out the crank sensor area...legged it home and were pulling the motor out hopefully this weekend or next week....find out the total damage and exactly what happened....car drives now....just not the same still throwing code 8.

im so pissed...because the track has NEVER been that well prepped...they had the Night of Fire Funny Car Fever the night before and so the track prep was better than its ever been. Everyone else was breaking their own records and im just sitting there saying that shoulda been me. *sigh* but it did feel really great to help my friends and customers out and see them all do so well.

but this gives me time to have my friend danny (DTR) make my header and refresh anything that needs it.... 2 seasons of severe beatings and 20k of daily driving....im honestly surprised that its holding up so well....

ProStreet Imports drag integra had quite a day tho.... ran an 11.4 (forgot if it was a 10.4 or 11.4) hit the traps and pushed the parachute....doors flew off and almost Demensional 1s car. thats how the bay does it...."Doors open mang!!"

Congrats to LDL and my ASR boys who got their license yesturday. 9 sec pass tooo sweet. D1 did great everyone did great!

Wow, talk about a day at the track! I hope everything turns out for the best. Crank Walk, what is this a DSM or a honda

Your car and your driving is an inspiration to me, keep it up. My goal is to hit 13.9 w/my 5th gen. Best I've hit is a 14.6 but with a slight build and drag radials comming...who knows. Keep representing the 5 gens with love!

With reaction times, the closer you get to 0 is better right? One person said to me that a .500 is perfect and anything below that your early. However, i see pro drag racers all the time hitting 0.18. By the way, how often do you break axles with your power level? I'm going to be at 200whp very shortly and am wondering if i should invest in replacement axles.
Thanks,
-Greg P

Hey Greg: haha i hear ya...its not too common on hondas DSM on the other hand but ive put this baby thru some pretty heavy beatings and im sure theres a lil play in there...bigger bearings might fix it if there is any problems. well see once i decided its time to pull it out.

Thanks for the kind words its always great to hear that. I have no doubt youll be at least at 13.9 with a good build...once you get past the infamous 14.2-14.1 mark its a lot easier to break into the 13s.

for the R/Ts....depending on what track you go to...there are twi different trees..... some are a 00 tree and some are a.5 tree. the track i was at is a .0 tree. .10 is a really bad reaction time on my part....im usually somewhere in the .003-.008 r/ts with a bunch of .001s which piss me off because if you hit a perfect one you get 500 bux! and ive been so close so many times

ive switched to aftermarket axles and theyve broken on me..i would rather spend 80 bux for stock ones that dont break as often than 600+ on ones that break at least once a year. Im putting down well over 200whp and im on slicks now with no axle problems... my brother was hitting 13.5 in his 5th gen (completely gutted out tho) and running stock axles too. he was pushing about 209whp.

Are you running an LSD in your setup? It's funny when I burn out only one wheel really spins *grrr*. My setup thus far is: AEM CAI/S2 Intake Manifold/Hondata IM gasket/T1R header/TP/Thermal Exhaust/Hondata S200 on a p28. I'm making 188/139

I'm going to be replacing the skunk2 manifold with a euro-r and am going to be dropping in some type s cams. I hope it will put me over the 200hp mark. I will also be taking out the rear seats, but that's it for lightweight....no gutting here! This is my DD afterall :-)
