car length?

i'm curious what a car-length of distance between two cars at the end of a 1/4mile means as far as time is concerned? basically, one car-length = ? seconds?

I heard 1 second difference in the quarter = 10 car lengths.

I car length at 90 MPH isn't much. Figure a car is about 15 feet long (roughly) there are 5280 feet in 1 mile, so 475,200 feet an hour, 7920 feet per minute, 132 feet a second. Thus, dividing 15 by 132, you get .11 seconds, which is a rough estimate, assuming both cars are traveling at 90MPH. PushVTEC is pretty close. 1 second would work out to about 10 car lengths.

So from the car mags, a 95 VTEC hit 100 in 17.6 seconds, and a 97 SH does in 19.0 seconds...(I know different times, different test, etc..) how many car lengths does that come out to?
