Hey guys i have a 100% stock 5th gen with yokohama EVS AV100 tires...with about 200lbs on weight in my trunk from the amp\subs\box\capacitors\wire, etc
here's what i got
1st run was 1.10
17.1 sec
2nd was 1.51
16.8 sec
3rd was 0.83
16.7
4th was 0.75
16.5
what i dont get is i got a 1.10 start in the 1st run and 17.1 but in the 2nd run i did worse and got 1.51 and endedd up with 16.8, bleh! i could have broke into high 15 if i let out air in my tires. but remember i have a complete sub system with 12's pushing 4,800 watts, im assuming its around 200lbs of weight in there.
i guess i just wnat to know are those good times for a completely stock 5th gen with 200 extra lbs?
do you even know how to read a time slip? Are you first posting your reaction time numbers followed by your 1/4 times? Reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 ET's, what you should be worrying about and focousing on is your 60' foot times, were you getting like 2.4x-2.6x 60' times? With the Yokohama AVS ES 100 tires you should atleast be able to break a 2.2x 60' time, with that you should be in the 15's. Post up your whole slip so I can look at it.

that's your problem, your 60' times are horrible if you have a 5spd car, either you are getting way too much wheel spin or you are bogging in your take-offs. what kind of tires are you using? also how are you launching? how much pressure do you have in the tires? you should be getting anywhere from 2.2-2.3 60' times for a stock 5th gen.

I didnt feel any bogging because i didnt drop the clutch. I feathered it out, I launched from ~ 5-5.5krpm's and when i feather it out the rpm's dropped to about 4k by time the clutch was fully out, that might be my problem?"
I didnt feel much wheelspin when i feathered the clutch out, im deaf so i cant hear the screeching so i rely on feel. im pretty sure i didnt spin much, mabye i did.
I have yokohama EVS AV100's so that should be fine, only problem is i was too excited\nervous that i forgot to lower the pressure, they were probably in the high 30psi range, next time i'll put it at 25psi
my first run at 3 second 60' but then my last one had 2.5 so i think with each run i improve. little practice and i thin i can do 2.2-2.3

im usually shifting between 7,500-8,000 because ive read on here that the stock tach isnt accurate.

Yup, shift right at 8k rpm, that's where the fuel cut off is at, trust us all when we tell you that, it will make a difference. Also, if you say you were feathering the clutch at 5.5k and it would drop to 4k when it would grab then that means you are somewhat bogging, try feathering it a little more faster but at the same time apply more gas gently, your slipping it too slowly. One last thing, start at 20psi when you are at the track, this helps prevent wheel spin, don't start at 25psi. don't be scuuured!!

Allright i'll head back to the track soon, probably the 4th or 11th of june and do some more runs based on what ive learned in here.
i'll keep you all posted on my improvements, thanks guys!

I wouldnt worry to much about the high times. The first time you go to the track you are always goin to be nervous and run some bad times. Like the others said, feather the throttle when you are letting the clutch out to control wheelhop and shift at 8000rpms and you will get better. It just takes a lot of practice to launch it right. good luck!
