I'm already thinking about new tires for next season and just wondering what you guys would recomend. These are for track only and I will probably have another set for auto-x. Also looking for more opinions on the Avon and the Michelin. As far as price, the Hoosier is the most expensive and the Kumho is the cheapest.

The Avon and Michelin arent that good. I would stick with the Hoosiers for max grip, but they wear out the fastest. Otherwise definetely RA-1's(what size are you listing?) or the Victos.
Why don't you have the Kumho v710? It's in the same ballpark as the other tires you mention. If you're wanting some versatility (ie: tracking in the rain or dry), then the RA-1s (the "spec" tire for Miatas next year in club racing) or the Yoko Advans are probably your best bet. The Victos though would last you for several track days, but does have less grip than the Ecsta v700 and v710.

I was gonna vote Kumho V710 before reading your post. Then I realized that you want the tires for tracks. In that case, I would go with RA-1. I haven't really driven on RA-1 in my car yet, but I've driven my friend's Civic on RA-1. It's hard to compare the tires in 2 different cars, but I would bet that the V710 will have more grip, but you really have to watch the tire temps on them. If you overheat them, they can chunk. That's why I would go with RA-1. What size wheels are you going to put these tires on? I see that your choices have several 245/45/16. Do you have 16x8? Or at least 16x7.5?
A little off topic, I wonder if I can put 245/45/16 tires on 16x7? The reason I ask is that my 225/50/16 V710 looks like 245. Since now I have 2 sets of wheels (both being 16x7 and both have 225/50/16 tires on), the 225/50/16 V710s are noticeably wider than my 225/50/16 BFG R1s. Also, monk3y and I have compared our tires/wheels before. I put my 225/50/16 V710 next to his 235/40/17 RA-1 mounted on 17x8. They look to have the same width. That's why I'm wondering if a 245/45/16 R-compound tire can be fitted into a 16x7 wheel. Anyone tried this before?

vwong - I've got some RX-7 wheels, 16x8 +50. I already did a test fit with the victoracers and they fit but will rub once i get some suspension flex, not to worried about it. I also hope to get a set of 245/45-16 v710's for auto-x use and just swap em out on the rims before each track day.
As for the 245 on a 7 inch rim. If i have time tomorrow at work i'll thow the 245/45-16 victoracer on a 16x7 and put in on my car and let u guys know.

My Hoosiers look a little pinched on a 7" rim, and they're only 225/45/15s, granted they're wide for a 225, but I think a 245 is just a tad wider. I don't think a 245 on a 7" rim is going to work very well at all unless you have a tall sidewall. The 245/50/15 Hoosiers look horrible on my 15x7s, but since they're so tall, there's enough sidewall to keep the contact patch from getting pinched.
I'm just curious about one thing. Why are you set on such a large tire? David has had very good success with 225/50/16s with a little rubbing, and he says he likes the 225/45/15s. As far as I know, he hasn't had the 225/45/15s go off on him, and I of course, have not had that problem either since I haven't driven the car hard enough. The 225/45/15s will give you a 3/4" lower ride height with more suspension travel and it gives effectively lowers your overall gearing. I'm just wondering if a trying to shoehorn a 245 tire under the car will buy you that much more, especially since the tire and wheel combo will be heavier (although I don't think the weight itself will make much of a difference).
Well, i've always heard that you want the biggest tire you can possibly fit. And the 245 fits so I figure why not. I was also thinking of just running the 225/50-16 on the 16x8 wheel to save on a little money, but the 245 and 225 Victoracers are so close in price i figure i'll just run the 245 and see what happens. And i'm not gunna lie, part of it is to say I shoehorned a 245 under a prelude.

Billy - also remember JP's car weighs substantially more than yours or David's, making it much easier to overheat a tire like a 225. Its been my experience that a stock weight Prelude is undertired with 225's, and with 245's would be much better balanced.

I'm on a stock FD. I was able to find a dead 245/45-16 hoosier out in California through nasaforums.com He's going to mail it out here so I can test fit.

JP, when you do the test fit, could you bring it over to my place too? Since I don't have the suspension on the car currently, we could run it through the full range of motion to see how it fits. Plus, I'd like to see how it works on a car with more camber than yours.
I can also have the sway bar ready for you to pick up.
The 245/45/16 Hoosier will fit under the front with only a little rubbing on the inner wall. In the rear, you will have to flare (not just roll) the fender just a little bit. ...but not too much. Maybe 5mm. The 245/45's are slightly wider, and slightly shorter than the 225/50's.
My camber settings were -2.5F/-1.5R If you had more negative rear camber, you might be able to get away with just rolling. ...and I have the Ingalls kit, so my suspension travel is stopped by the upper arm hitting the tower vs. the tire hitting the fender and wheel well without the kit (in the front).

Or do what I do...buy used R-compounds from guys who do race. Go to honda-tech.com & you will sees lots of slightly used R-cmpds for sale dirt-cheap in the road-racing forum. I got my current set of 225-50-15 R3S04's for $100 from a buddy who runs a hatch in H1. They had 3 weekends on them & the rears still looked brand new I ran 20 track days this year on 2 used sets of Hoosiers (which only cost me $300 for both sets plus mounting)
^^ Damn! I didn't know Hoosiers could possibly last that long.
no offense but i don't think they do, inless u are VERY easy on the tires. Even then, 10 track days on a set of used hoosiers, just doesn't make much sense. I know I can't get that out of my victoracers that I have now.
