Track Day: Streets of Willow December 11-12

Speed Trial USA is having a track day on December 12 and 13 at Willow Springs. It's my first time going with this group. Anyone else going? Has anyone driven with this group before?

I just installed an ST Suspension rear sway bar on my 5th gen Prelude. I ordered some Yokohama S drive tires to replace my dunlop direzza dz101. I have SS brake lines and track pads. Otherwise it's stock.

Did you end up going to this? How'd it go?

DZ101's are hardly an upgrade from the S-Drive's for HPDE's. I would recommend something that can take heat/abuse better, like AD08's, RT615(k)'s, RS3's, RE-11's, or Kumho XS. These tires are designed for such endeavors.

It wouldn't matter if they were an upgrade or not being that it was his first time. At least he has a baseline to judge future tire choices by. Don't see ANY other preludes other than mine in my area going to track days. Good for you 3musuko. How did you like it?

I agree. Although, I understood the post as if he were "upgrading" tires by switching over to S-Drives. However, it could have simply been due to the DZ101's being worn out.

Ah, I see. I'm still wondering if he even went.

Sorry for the delayed response. It's been super busy with work and the holidays.
Yes, I did end up going. I think the Dunlops are a tiny bit better for grip. The Yokohamas squeal a lot more but hopefully they'll last longer. I also put on a stiffer rear sway bar which reduced understeer.

My next event will be with Open Track on January 19th. I went last year in the pouring rain and had a blast! My prelude was able to keep up or pass all the high horsepower cars and hardly anyone was there.

I'd love to go to an Extreme Speed event but it's tough to get out on weekends. Are you planning to any So. Cal track days?

Awesome. Yeah, the S-Drives are a slight step down from the DZ101's. If you want a good tire that can last you over 10,000 miles and is great for double duty, get a set of Z1-Star Specs. They kick ass rain or shine . They are pretty affordable too.

I would love to go to a So-Cal event, but I wouldn't be comfortable without bringing a trailer. One of my friend's suggested that we rent a U-Haul trailer combo, so that might be a possibility.

Hopefully we can get a few Prelude guys/gals to hit up an event together!

I might switch back to the Dunlop DZ101's.
The Yokohama's did ok with the SOW but on the Big Willow I have lot's of chunking on the outside edges of my tires. I think they're toast.

Why are you going back to the wrong tool for the job again? You need something that is designed to handle track use. Get some Dunlop Z1 Star Specs, AD08's, RE-11's, or RS-3's.

Also, you should be able to use your S-Drives on the street as is. What tire pressures were you running? It looks like they might have been underinflated.

I couldn't go because work. Try the Dunlop DZ101 star spec if you can find them.
