Swapping front pads for track days?

I am currently using Hawk HPS front/rear, but are thinking about using something more aggressive and heat tolerant for track days. Does anyone see a problem with me swapping pads at the track? I plan to use the same rotors.

Once I have bedded in the pads and used them at the track once, would I need to do anything special on my second time using them at the track? For example, should I bed them in again, or just go easy on them for the first session to get the pad/rotor surfaces to mate better?

You will be fine doing this. Just be aware of the difference in thickness in the old pads to the new pads. If theres a considerable difference you'll need to bleed your calipers as you compress the piston so the fluid doesnt overflow out the top of the resevoir. ask me how I know this.....

I run Spec VR's in front for track but I have dedicated track rotors as well. Takes about an hour or so to swap out the rotors and pads. I swap it all out on the friday before and then put the street stuff on that monday before or after work.

If you aren't swapping the rotors, you should be able to change the pads out fairly quickly. Like 20-30 minutes.

I change the front pads at the track. I don't change the rotor unless I have to, but I bring another pair of front rotors just in case.

I put my Hawk blues on the day before I go up. Then when I'm on the highway going to the track I take the opportunity to bed them in when no one else is around. Last time I did this was at night and those blues sent sparks flying out of my wheels as they ground off the old pad material of the street compound. Scared the crap out of me at first

For track only pads you should run a dedicated rotor IMO. I run Cobalt GT-sports and stock on the same rotor for autocross / street respeictively on the same rotor. I use Cobalt VR's and another set of rotors for the track.

I was thinking of using HP+ or even something more agressive, in the front, and keep my HPS in the rear. I expect to see more wear on the rotors, but as long as I can still switch back to the HPS's for the drive home and regular street driving I'll be happy.

I have extra rotors in case I need them.

When people say Hawk Blues, which one do they mean? There are two Hawk Blues.

THe 9012s. The others are for lighter race cars.
