I am finally able to order some parts for my car. I plan on picking up a set of GC coilovers for 4th gen from Mike. I was thinking about ordering the GC with a 400lb spring rate. It seems like that is what some users on here was running and really enjoyed it. They said it was not too stiff or too soft.
I have 400 F&R on my 5th gen. Stiff really is a subjective thing. I can't compare it to 450 or 500 as I have not driven a car with either. But you know are riding in a car with a modified suspension. There is no pretending it has a smooth ride anymore. It is harsh over hard bumps. You sometimes "skip" over bumps. It does do it's job in the hanlding dept though.
I put the 400s on b/c I wanted to more competitive in autocross. And it accomplished that. And I was willing to live with the ride for the handling. Now that I have another car for autocrossing I find myself wanting something softer for my daily driver.

I have 450 f/r and it feels perfect. Although, if I am in an area with tons of pot holes and bumps, it can get annoying, but never to where i want to change anything.
It really depends on two things:
-How harsh is harsh to you?
-The roads in your area.
I have been to other cities, and I would not have 450s if I was to live there.

thanks for the input. that was exactly what i was looking for. the roads in my area right now are crappy, however i am moving in sept. i dont know where i am going to yet, but i move around often. my car is a daily driver that i SOMETIMES use for autocross. not no where near what i would like too.
i was going to match the coil overs with kyb agx adjustable shocks.

well after reading on this forum and others, koni's are getting the nod from everyone.
i dont know if 600lbs f/r is really what i am looking for. if the 400lbs f/r guys says sometimes it can be to stiff, then chances are 600lbs would be stiffer.
I did on 650's f/r on the same shocks James owns now. Its not soft lol, but with the shocks turned down, it was manageable.
You'd need revalved shocks to do it though Aqib, the OTS Konis wont last long on rates that high, and you would need to run them at full stiff to keep the suspension from oscillating badly, so it would be pretty harsh to drive on.
I'm running 400f/r (GC coilovers) on revalved konis on a 2000 SH. It's my only car, though not a daily driver (thank god for the subway...) Even with the suspension dialed out, it's "a little" rough on the insane Boston potholes. Anywhere else in the country I've lived it'd be totally fine. Your opinions may vary, it does drive the wife nuts.
I'll also second the thoughts of everyone else here -- GC coilovers and revalved Koni's. All the way.

I'm currently running at 400lbs F/R with 'regular' Koni Yellows on NYC roads as a daily driver. Personally, I can deal with it and sometimes would wish Andrew (the person I bought these from) would have opted for stiffer rates, but that would also require that the Koni's be revalved and shortened.
The shocks are set at 1/2 turn from full stiff and like I said, it's fine to me. However, the car takes a beating daily and anyone sane should and would not prefer this. All personal preference because all my friends think I'm crazy but then again, they do not truly appreciate a decreasing radius downhill ramp from the Van Wyck to the LIE interchange.
I daily drove it for about 6 months, but not anymore...it's a garage queen these days except for autocross/track days and the occasional cruise. Yes, the ride was harsh. I was too lazy to turn down the shocks.

650s as a DD. How long did you drive this setup Drew? I bet if you sped up enough on some dips you could get the car to really kind of fly up a little (excuse my choice of words, don't know what else to call it)

If I had a second car, which I am really considering, I would probably opt for these. But for now, I'll have to wait until I can ride with somebody who has them first.

For the cost of OTS Konis, shortening, and revalving, the 3011s are quite inexpensive, and they're a pure race shock. Problem is, Koni probably jacked up the price on them like they did the 2812s since they took over as the main sponsor of Grand Am. I was shocked to hear that 2812s have gone up $150 a piece. That's $600 extra for a full set!!
I really like Hypercoil springs. I use 2.25" ID 7" free length on mine. I used 950 lb/in front and 1200 lb/in rear but that's a bit stiff at MSR, so I'm going to try 750 lb/in front and 950 lb/in rear at the next event. The car isn't a daily driver, though!

Maybe 9 months I guess? It was manageable for me, but on uneven roads(especially ones with lots of dips in the pavement) it was a bit of a pain. But on the highway it was fine. I got used to it, but I dont miss it....
