Spec VR's on the street?

I ahve some spec VR's and new rotors for track only, my question is can I just swap the pads and rotors the friday before the event and drive the 1-3 hours to the track on the spec vr's or would this not be recomended? Should I just swap them at the track?

Spec VRs aren't going to stop very well when cold. I wouldn't do it, but that's me....

What track event are you going to?

Wouldn't you want to bed them in before you went to the track though?

Werd...

I had my Spec VRs on my car a few days before track and week after the track day. No problems here... except they leave PLENTY of brake dust.

Yeah, but not on the drive TO the event! Going out for a session or so going easy on the brakes and getting progressively harder on them works fine. That's what I usually do with the track car since I can't drive it on the street.

Yep, I'm missing Houston too due to lack of money and time. I'll be at MSR in March though.

Spec VR's are streetable. more than a few people have done it. just don't tailgate or speed excessively.

i found that my spec vr's had more grip than gt sports when cold. the downside is they'll tear up your rotors really quick and they dust ALOT. if you let the dust get wet and then dry it will be a PITA to get it off. It almost bakes on.

Billy,
I have had great success running VR's on the street. They don't tear up the rotors, they still stop better cold then "cheepo" street pads for the first stop. They do dust, but who cares when your wheels are black anyways. They are, IMO the best "full race" pad that can be street driven.
The only reason I really see to driving them on the street often is using up expensive pads to do so.. Running to and from the track on those pads isn't a problem at all.

Interesting, they must be much better than the Porterfield R4 pads when they're cold. I almost ran into a gate when I tried going out on the street to bed my R4 pads, and that was at like 15 MPH!!

Is anyone going? I guess I will be solo this weekend...I'm in the same boat b/c I won't have funds to make it to MSR Cresson in March/April...getting married/honeymoon etc.

But I will be at MSR Houston again in May...hope to see you guys there.

I asked the same question on H-T a few weeks ago.

Will probably be doing this on Saturday. Good luck to me! Also bringing some extra brake pads though just in case the drive up is too scary to change back from the event.

...another +1 for driving the Spec-VRs on the street. Been doing it for over 3 months, now.

Just seems silly to me to drive on the street using up very expensive pads with no real benefit.

I wasn't planning on it...but the Prelude is for sale. I offered my Spec-VRs up for sale ($50) in the autoX forum, but no one bit...so I put them on instead of replacing the slim GTSs that were on the car. ...and my rotors get replaced for free (AutoZone - $20/rotor + 2-year warrenty).
