SCCA rules?

Recently I went to an Autocross in Gainesville and it was the first event of the year for our southeastern SCCA group. There were a total of 97 entries 74 people turned out. I ran poorly and was disgusted with my times, we were only given 4 laps. 2 of the 4 I spent as a gravel inspector.

As things got wraped up the times were posted and I seen that I was fast enough to place second of sixteen, and get a trophy but I was still disgusted because I was beat by 4 seconds, it would have been one thing if I was a second or even two off but four was a kick in the face.Later after looking at the times I realize the car that was running in my catagory "Novice" was also in "Street Touring Unlimited" but under a different driver, but the driver that was in the novice class was posting times that would have been put him in second in the "street touring unlimited" division. Does the SCCA have a way to track which classes a driver has run in? I'm not sure if I was beat by a better car or by a better driver, it was probably both in this case.

Any records of competition would be kept by your local region, not the national office. And those records usually consist of results posting like you linked to. Maybe if your region keeps a season points you can look in there....

But really WHO CARES. A BMW 328i is faster around an autocross course than a Prelude. That is just fact. Is it the car or the driver? Who knows? The only way is for both of you to run both cars and average the times. And that's not gonna happen so no use in worrying about it. After autocrossing for several years now I have learned this: you have much more fun and actually improve faster when you just concentrate on learning and beating your last run vs trying to beat someone else.

Sounds as if one someone brought out a friend, their friend ran the car in Novice, and the owner ran the car in STU. This is fairly common.

As Paul mentioned, I would just concentrate on getting faster each run and at the end of the day see how you did against the competition. Once you start getting consistant (all runs within at least a second), then I would start worrying about your competition.

I completely understand that you want to be competitive, believe me, I'm VERY competitive... I hate to lose ... but when you first start out you just need to get as much seat time as you can, learn your car and how it reacts, and try to get faster all the time. Being competitive will come with time. :-D

Don't argue with stupid people, they will bring you to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm thinking that I may take more time this year to make it to test and tune sessions inorder to get more seat time. I really like the test and tune sessions because there are usually only 15-20 people there so you get as many runs as you can stand to get.

I know the Merideths well. Bryce (STU driver) and his dad trophied at Nationals last year so that BMW is set up very well and it's much faster than the Prelude. The driver in Novice ahead of you I think is Bryce's brother and he's a novice. I don't think I've ever seen him autocross although I'm sure he got a lot of useful advice from his brother.

You should try Brooksville with CFR SCCA region. They hardly get anyone out to that sight on the practice days. Just make sure you pre-register on the website so that your name will be on the access list. Don't worry if you can't make it, just put your name down just in case.

I'll be going out to a Non-SCCA autocross to try to practice on some techniques that I seen here in another thread. I have a rivalary with my buddy who has an Integra so it'll be fun.
