remove balancer shaft belt?

Anyone remove their belt from the balancer shaft? 10lbs less mass to spin might be wroth it. If you have, How bad is the vibration? did anything bad happen after a while?

After looking at the HC rules, it looks like removing the shafts would not be legal, but belts are open, so removing the belt should be ok.

Billy (71DSP) removed his. I think DR did as well. I'm going to simply remove the belt this weekend while the timing belt is being changed.

People have claimed just a tad bit more vibration but 3 whp and 2 tq throughout the band.

HC Rules are kinda lucrative in this area. I wouldn't imagine you'd run into too much trouble.

You can remove the belts but not the shafts unless you are going to argue that the removal of the shafts was essential to the balancing of the engine Billy removed his way before thoughts of running H2 so I'll let him slide (until he beats me ) I didn't notice much of a change when my balancer belts were left off after a timing belt change.

If you're gonna remove them I think it is essential to block the oil passages properly to prevent oddities in oil pressure.

this is true if you remove the shafts.. however I can't think of any reason to worry about oil problems if you just take off the belt.....right?

I also have the belt removed. I can't comment on any added vibration. I have ES engine mount insterts and the vibration seems the same. *shrug* ie: no added vibration feel over the engine mount vibration.

Get rid of that belt.. I made sure the "belt" clause was put in the rules for us H/F engines
