Racing seat questions...

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about selling my precious OEM heated leather seats and get a race seat for the Prelude. But I would get a set of stock seats for daily driving. Here are my questions;

- What else do I need besides the race seat, bracket, sliders (optional?)?
- Can I just have one seat for track/lapping/driving school days? I've heard some rumblings about rules that require the passenger side to have the same safety measures as the driver's side (i.e. seat, belts, etc).
- Will a race seat be lower than the stock seat? On of the reasons why I want to change over to a race seat is because my head hits the roof with the stock seat.
- Anybody have thoughts on the Buddy Club seat? I've heard they are narrow... I would probably get the wider version of the BC seat if I choose that route.

Keith

I've run track days with instructors when I had a harness on my side and standard 3 point on theirs. Nothing was said at TWS or Hallett, so I don't believe that's the case.

I told you I have a Sparco EVO2 with your name on it. Seriously!

And just for you, since I bought a fancy new welder, I can make a bracket for you that will pretty much mount the seat on the floorboard.

To answer your questions:

1. You need the seat, side mount brakets, and floor mount brackets. I used a Sparco EVO, OMP aluminum side mount brackets, and fab'ed my own floor mount brackets.
2. You can have just one seat, but out of common courtesy, I'd have the same type of seat with the same type of harness for the passenger. I've heard the same rumors you have, and I have to say, if I were an instructor, I'd want to have the same safety measures as the driver!
3. Yes, a race seat can be higher or lower than stock. That's the beauty of side mounts.
4. Buddy Club? Sparco, Momo, OMP, Ultrashield, or Kirkey for me. Racetech is also good. Butler Built, if you have the cashola.

+1 to Billy. I had a harness on the drivers side of mine and the standard lap belt on the pass side and none of my instructors ever said anything.

I know Danny(NiMaDiFoB) has a fixed back drivers seat and the stocker in the pass side and has been to track days with it like that, so I wouldnt worry about it too much, although your region may be different.

Even my Corbeaus with sliders were lower than the stock seats. I put the stockers back in this week and can feel my head brushing the headliner all the time, I have no idea how I auto-xed/tracked the car with these seats lol.
