Questions on removing emission related equipment?

I think David (DR) and Billy (71dsp) will know. If I remove all the emission related equipment, do I have to swap out the ECU? My understanding is that I can't just remove the parts because I'll get check engine light. Is that correct?

The emission system checks every 3rd cycle to make sure everything is working properly. As long as you have the ECU reset mod it will never see 3 driving cycles and will not throw a code. Need an EGR block off plate??
