O/T: SSR Comp C's Are in Stock!

Yes, Tirerack just confirmed that my 17x8" SSR Comp C's RS's have shipped. They've been out of stock for months, so now is the time!

Too bad you didn't need 15x6, 4 x100 bolt patterns.... they have lots of those.

What size tire would you plan to run on a rim that large Brian? 225/40/17? What's the offset and (dare I ask) price?

EDIT: HOLY CRAP $400 EACH!!! For that price I'd get a set of custom 15x8.5" Kodiaks and 225/45/15 Hoosier R6s (did you guys see that the new 225/45/15 R6 has a 9" tread width and 9.8" section width on a 7.5" rim!!!).

I'm pretty sure he got the same ones I had Billy, they are 17x8 +48. If he's running big brakes, this is pretty much the only option. Plus, they are only 14.5 lbs each

I was gonna try some 245/40-17's on them before I sold the car. They would definetely be a tight fit though.

15x6? That's too small. I need at least 7.5". 8 would be great!

Work Equip 03's...

They also have them in 15x10's for the Prelude Racers.

Rota is making 15x8 Slipstreams in 4x100 bolt pattern.

Those Work wheels are so friggin expensive that I'd think Kodiaks would be a better choice.

Kodiak is always an option, but for 17s, Kodiak is more expensive. I'd like to run 17s to run a big brake kit, but I don't like that the tires are so large in OD, and there is nothing out there as wide as the new 225/45/15 Hoosier.

BTW: 7.0" wheel width is the max for SCCA IT, and NASA HC per the rules. Hey Billy your NASA region is not on spec tire (toyo)? You can actually use Hoosier's?

Since I don't run in HC yet, yes, I can run Hooisers. Really there are only 3 or 4 cars in HC in Texas, so it really doesn't matter. I can get Hoosiers cheaper than I can get Toyos, so for me, I prefer to run Hoosiers. If I ever get serious about HC (which isn't likely) I'll have to switch to Toyo, and then maybe a 235/40/17 is a better choice, but I think the 225/45/15 will still work a tad better, even if it is a bit narrower. While I'd love to race regularly, and that was my intent, my budget situation isn't stable enough to allow me to do it. I'll probably still get my license, as I really want to, but I won't be able to run in the group consistently.

HC doesn't have size restrictions in H1 or HU. The 7" max width only applies to H2-H5.

Arent Kodiaks a good bit heavier too?

Those Hoosiers do run wide, they are pretty much the exact same width as the 235/40-17's I ran, and I think the 235 RA-1 is the same width, and both are significantly taller than the 15's. That said, they are no taller than the 16's David used to run with pretty good success. Isnt he trying a 245/45-16 RA-1 now? Those are just as tall as a 245/40-17.

Have you temped the 225's at all? I guess its also possible you dont need a 10"+ tire. If you come to TWS, we can mess around with trying to put some of my wheels from the S on the racecar to check big tire fitment

I wish you had a chance to drive my car on the BBK, I think you would be surprised how much of a difference it made, the S2k brakes pale by comparison...I was honestly surprised by it when I got the car.

I don't know about 17" Kodiaks, but the "old" 15x8.5" Kodiaks were something like 12 to 13 lbs, and that was before they had forged centers, IIRC. I think the estimate was around 1 lb weight savings with the forged centers on a 15" wheel. The nice thing about the Kodiaks if you fubar the lip or shell, just have them install a new shell as long as the center is straight.

Yes, David is trying the 245/45/16 Toyos now. I think the old 225/50/16 Hoosiers he ran are actually larger. From what I can tell, he prefers the 15s, but the 245/45/16 Toyo is so much wider than the 225/45/15 or 225/50/15 Toyo that it doesn't make sense to run 15s in the Toyos. The new 225 R6s are actually wider than the 245 Toyos!

The Prelude is heavy enough that it can use every bit of a 10" tire. I haven't approached that level of driving yet, but I know David can use every bit of his 225/50/16 Hoosiers.

One day I might be interested in different brakes, but for now David does fine with them. I also haven't had any issues with them. I'm not crazy about $200 to $300 for a set of rotors myself.

I'm not 100% sure I'll be at TWS now...we'll see.

I want to run a large brake kit, so I needed the clearance. The 235/40/17 would be the size I'd be most interested in.

Brian - I'm not sure what BBK you are looking at, but the Rotora one fits under that wheel with a minute amount of clearance, its like 1-2mm on the inside edge. Not sure if anything with a larger caliper would fit or not. Just FYI.

Thanks for the heads up.
I was looking at the stoptech kit.
I don't mind having to run a wheel spacer to get it to fit.

The Stoptech kit has 330mm rotors right? I would presume this would move the caliper farther out from the hub as well, which would aid clearance. The tightest part on the Rotora BBK(295mm rotors) was on the inside edge of the caliper, if it was farther from the hub alot of the clearance issues would have been remedied. I'll be interested to see what you find when you get a brake kit on there.
