Need to install a 5th point for my harness

At the last NASA event I was at before I went out on my first heat one of the safty guys said I have to have a 5th point if I want to run a harness at NASA events. My questons is, what is the best way to mount up the anti-sub belt? Should I just drill a hole in the pan and weld in a backing plate for support? Any other ideas would be great. Thanks

Glad you asked, as I've recently got hold of some 6 point harnesses. I was thinking of mounting them just behind the back of the seat, by bolting through the floorpan, and using a nut and stress plate on both sides of the floorpan. I'm gussing this should be rigid enough....

Be careful, the fuel and brake lines run directly under the driver's seat.

Not sure if it's legal or not, but I bolted mine to the seat bracket. It is as sturdy IMHO as the factory points.

If you do it in the floor pan DEFINITELY weld in a backing plate.

would I have any issue using the dual anti-sub belt versus the single strap? seems like i could just drill two hole about a foot apart or so. Just wanted to be sure.

my aftermarket seat came with a hole for the 5th point belt, and I tied the belt to a thick bar just under that hole on the seat bracket. I have zero problems from any teck inspectors.

Are you using these with stock seats? If so, the 5th point is just about worthless. You might as well just bolt it directly to the seat. If you're using a race seat with a port for a 5th or 6th point, then you should mount the sub belts to the chassis under the seat, and slightly back from the hole in the seat for the sub belts (look on Simpon's web site for the correct mounting positions). To do things "right", I wouldn't bolt anything to the seat or frame.

I'm using a stock seat. The only reason i'm installing a 5th/6th point is because after i passed tech i was sitting in my car about to go on track and some guy stuck his head in my window and then told me i can't run a harness without a crotch strap.

From what I read above, if I want it to be useful I need to cut a hole in the seat for the anti-sub belt to come up right between my legs and into the cam?
