This kid is on AbsolutePrelude: Thread is here...

My responses in that thread pretty much show what I feel about the situation.

To summarize: I believe the safety steward acted negligently, and I have deep reservations that a Divisional Safety Steward took a look at the course. Unfortunately, the waiver and his particiaption in the event means he has no recourse.

From pictures from that event I have seen: there was a long straight that ended in sweeping turn and offset/lanechange maneuvers. Which is where most people went off. This case he went off driver's right.

It sucks, and hopefully his emails will get something done about it.

That's at Grattan Raceway... fun track, not really an autocross type track if you ask me. Maybe there were advertising it as a 'high speed autocross'?

Ouch! It makes me feel better knowing that I usually race on an run way where the only real issue is that in some places there is an 8-12" drop off the side of the concrete which I'm sure at speed could easily roll a car but they tend to keep the traffic away from there. Is racing on an actual race course much different than racing through cones?

I'm more than a little surprised there was no airbag delpoyment.

From what I've read/heard about the event, its usually the highest speed event of the year for the WMRSCCA, and it regularly reaches 3rd gear. Yet they call it an autocross for insurance purposes. Suffice to say the owner of the car is contacting alot of people in the SCCA, and this will hopefully prevent a similar accident from happening again in the future.

As a Solo Region Chairman and a Safty Stewart there is NO way that i would let that event take place with speed that fast.

I have a event at a "old" airport and i'm CONSTANTLY on my course designers to keep the speed down. 99% of my events are at small parking lots and they want to "open" it up. And i agree to a extent. It should be a little faster.

The event should be planed for novices an ventrans a like.

All that said we know all risks.

Bummer for him
