Koni threaded sleeves vs. Ground Control

Any opinions?

If it matters: SPSS-valved Koni Sports, pretty moderate spring rates (~600lbs), weekend track use.

Do the Koni sleeves have the same rubbing problem as GC? Advantages/disadvatages of each?

figured this wouldn't get much attention in the 5th gen or general forums.

thanx in advance

GC works fine if you cut the fronts a bit shorter. Not sure about the Koni version.

thanks - looked at all the old Gc threads and I know I can cut if I have to.

I should probably give GC a call, especially since I'll be using shortened front shocks. Maybe they can send me a shorter set from the factory - I'm in no rush.

I know 71DSP has the Koni sleeves but I haven't been able to get in touch with him . . . kinda hoping someone else is using them.

I'm sure he'll chime in shortly.

Billy is running 3011's, which have a larger diameter shock body. I'm seen the coilover perches for sale somewhere, and always wondered if they were an option, but no one seems to be using them ---> this might be because you need the larger shock body.

The 3011s do have a larger body, which requires Koni's threaded sleeves (GC doesn't make anything, I asked). I like GC's method of using a pinch bolt, as the Koni uses a set screw which distorts the threads slighly on the threaded body, making adjustment more troublesome. GC said they'd machine something for me, but I haven't looked into it much since then.

If it were me, I'd just take which ever is cheaper. The GCs will include the urethane upper isolators, which Koni does not have. Construction is about the same. Anodized aluminum. I suspect 7075 or so.

Koni makes them for the regular Sport shocks.

Koni sleeves seem to be a little bit cheaper so I may go with those then - I have plenty of time to decide now that its getting to be too cold to work on the Lude.

thanks for the help fellas

I agree with Billy, in that I like the GC design better. The old GC perches actually used to secure in that fashion, they have since been changed.

Wonder if I could modify a stock lower spring perch to work with the Koni sleeve/perch. It would be nice to be able to adjust the perch height on a progressive spring for my street car.
