Key Immobilizer

I'd like to remove the OEM key immobilizer off the steering column on my track car. Has anyone here done this?

I'd like to cleanup all of the associated wiring and such so lemme know how you've done this. PM me if you prefer.

Thanks,

i've never seen one (4th gen) but there are ppl on this board who can do lightened steering column/racks

you might look into that if you want a lighter weight piece

Anyone else? I'd be really interested in this also, I've been having some issues with the unit and I'd rather just have it gone.

There is an electronic element you can splice in that gets rid of the need for the code key (used for remote starters). Is that what you want?

Yes. Do you have information on this?

I believe that would do it. I'm not having problems with my keys (I've tried all 3 of them), I'm looking for a way to get the ICU (immoblilizer control unit) out of the picture. I could care less if my car needs a coded key to start it, if someone steals it, oh well.

Isn't the key immobilizer just a specific resistor value in the key? Haven't follow car audio/electronics for years but it use to be just a simple resistor to complete the circuit.

I assume something like this could resolve some of the headaches.

I took this picture, but I still can't figure out what the chip is. I figure it is some sort of crystal or resonator, but unlikely to be a resistor.

Well i dont have a brochure, but i have installed a good many of them. What do you need to know?

This box has: power, ground, key in and "key" out.

Wire it up like so: Ground to ground, Red to IGN (on with ignition on), and the others splice the dataline going to the key fob.

You only have to do this once. Use your key so the unit "learns" your code, then after that everytime you start your car you dont need a coded key

We're looking to remove the unit that requires a coded key. Not find a way around the key itself. We are talking about removing the Immobilizer unit itself.

Got a 5th gen Helms manual wiring diagrams you can send me?

Are you trying to make the car start with switches or something? Cause you are going to have to put a key in anyways to get the steering wheel to move.

We're talking about removing the key immobilizer unit from the steering column and still using the original key in the ignition to start the car. Currently, I don't know how to bypass the wiring once the key immobilizer is physically removed.

I have a helms and can scan you anything you'd like. I'll look for the pages.
