just saying hi

I have been on Honda-Tech for a long time, but this is my 1st post on PO.com. I have raced a 5th gen prelude in the NASA time trials for the past 2 years, and used to auto-x way back before that. The prelude is heading to the Honda challenge next year (2006), were I will try to lay the smack down on the pesky type-R's.

....anyway, HI!! I will be hanging around in this forum the most.

Welcome Walter! I'm 117 on H-T.com.

Too bad you're not in Texas. I'll be the second H2 5Gen Prelude in the Texas HC. Hopefully starting this Nov, if not, then 2006 for sure.

A few old and new pictures of my kaa:

Welcome aboard. Awesome car ya got there. Few questions for ya....

What numbers did the dyno turn up?

How do you like the car without a front swaybar?

I know H1 Corey doesn't run one in his 4th gen. Billy (71DSP) and DR kept them on. You're the first 5th gen racer I've know of who opted to run without it.

Who is SMBS? In regards to the racing front radius rod bushings (spherical bearing). Did they give you a noticable improvment?

Where did you get the K-mac adjustable upper ball joints? Is there much benefit in using them?

Can you post pics of your custom brake ducting?

What type of ECU are you running? What type of tuning?

Is that Mugen rear spoiler functional? Looks cool.

Got any more pictures of you racecar?

Okay, I guess thats enough for now....

Paul, SMBS is a shop that specializes in CRXs from what I've seen. Tom is a great guy. I've bought a set or two of those radius rod bearings from him, and I told you I'd sell a set to you if you want them. Not sure what the web address is, I'd have to look it up.

Welcome Walter. I replied in your H-T post about the adjustable UCAs and other parts. Great to see another Prelude race car on the site. I hope you kick some but in H2 next year.

What numbers did the dyno turn up?
mustang dyno = 155 base line, zero mods pure stock
same dyno = 185 with I/H/E and VAFC tuned in.
same dyno = ?? with no power steering, light weight pullies, and light weight fly wheel.
?? = I need to go back up to find out

I like it just fine. With 800lbs/ich front springs I feel that I don't really need the sway bar. The car is real EZ to throttle steer, lift in a turn and the rear end comes lose then get back on it and rear end sticks again. It also takes about 20lbs off the front of the car.

Quote:

I can't find the link for his web sight right now, but they sell a kit for other hondas that use the front radius rods, however they are not a perfect fit on our preludes. They still work well, but I'm in the process of making up some specifically for preludes that should be a little better. You know how our cars like to dart from the left to right under hard braking? They seemed to help this some, and I'm sure they help keep the contact patch in place. They do what any good spherical bearing should do, they don't let the suspension move in ways we don't want, but do let it move freely in the direction we want (zero bushing bind).

Where did you get the K-mac adjustable upper ball joints? Is there much benefit in using them?
http://www.k-mac.com/ They are used on my car to get even tire temps from outer/middle/inner for each front tire. They basically adjust the amount of camber. However, I have had a few problems with them working loose so I'm looking into a custom adjustable upper A-arm. FWIW my chamber settings are usually -2.5 front left, and -1.5 front right.

Can you post pics of your custom brake ducting?
I think I have some, but I will have to dig them up

Quote:
What type of ECU are you running? What type of tuning?
Stock OEM ECU with Apexi VAFC tuned for full throttle only so OBD2 will not screw with it. I also have a secondary O2 simulator to keep the check engine light from coming on because I have no cat and no 2nd O2 sensor. Note: my engine is stock from the TB to the header per the Honda Challenge rules thus a stand alone ECU is not really needed IMO.

No idea. Mugen claims it will reduce drag by helping the air flow off the back of the car. I don't think it makes any real down force. I got it for $50 off E-bay because it was cracked. With a little fiberglass filler, a little sanding, and a little painting I fixed it.

Got a few on my web sight (see link in my sig), look under "race pictures" on the side menu.

Are they an alternative to a camber kit?

Why do you run uneven camber? To compensate for the driver's added weight?

Looks great. Where did you get those headlight covers? Did you make them?

It is what I have to do to get even tire temps on both front tires. It's mainly because there are more right hand turns than left hand turns on any track that you run clock wise.

The lights are just covered with black vinal from the local sing shop.

Welcome to PO.com, Walter. It's nice to see another Prelude race car. I hope to start converting mine to HC H1 sometime next year.
