Just another video...

http://www.vwong.org/videos/buttonwillow2006-01-08.mpg

This was from yesterday at Buttonwillow. We were running config. #25 CCW. This was my first time running this config. I started out slow to get used to the track. My best lap time from the first session was 2:17.1xx. Then I improved on it during the second session. I dropped my lap time to 2:12.308. That was pretty good.

We also ran on Saturday. It was config. #13 CW. My best was 2:12.120. This is about 2.4 seconds improvement from the last time I ran this config. Too bad, my little mistake caused the images very white in the video. So it wasn't worth posting.

It was definitely fun. This was the first time I could use 5th gear on a track. (I'm sure the big track at Willow Springs can too, but the last time I was there, I didn't have the skills and definitely didn't have the balls too go fast.) There was one lap where I took a peek at the speedo just before the braking point, it was reading about 117mph. I love this track.

If you are hitting 5th, then you are doing more than 117mph... We'll hit 120+ at GIR and maybe use 5th but it would only be for a split second... (not worth it IMHO).

Yeah unless you have an aftermarket FD or are short shifting, 7500rpm in 4th on the stock tire is 117.5mph. You were well into 5th, meaning you should have been reaching 125+

I might be going 125+, but the speedo was indicating about 117mph. I was running on 225/50/16 r-compound tires. That's about 1" taller than stock tire. I think this usually causes the speedo to read slower. It was too bad that I didn't mount my friend's data logger into my car on Sunday. Otherwise, I know how fast I was going.

Just an example, we mounted the data logger in my car on Saturday. I thought I reached a top speed of about 105mph (as indicated from the speedo), but the data logger said my top speed was almost 112mph. So, you guys could be right that I probably reached 125mph.

The Speedo will read the same at the same rpm, regardless of tire size. Your actual speed will be higher than what the speedo says, but no matter what diameter your tire is, you will still show the same speed on your speedo for given rpm in each gear. It doesnt compensate for tire height.

That said, no speedo is that accurate, which is why most cops wont pull you over for 5 over the speed limit, because thats within the error margin of most speedometers.

Maybe its odd, but every track on the east coast, in H2 trim, I could hit 5th gear (except for 1.5m beaverun).

Do we have faster tracks here?

Ah, I forget the 4th gen VTEC 4th and 5th is a good bit shorter then the 5th gen..

^^ have you hit WGI? I have only been on the course once and it was not at speed.... I wonder how fast a Lude could go on that track?

No, not yet. I'm sure it will top out there. 140 comes pretty easily at Summit Point, and WGI is much faster, so I hear.

Well, the 4th and 5th gears are one different. What about the tire size you were running? If you were running 225/50/15, it won't affect your gears much. I was running on tires that were around 1" taller overall. So this makes all my gears taller.

Nice video.

I'll get to try Buttonwillow for the first time later this year. Thanks for the preview.

When are you going? I'll be back in Buttonwillow again in December for the Redline Time Attack.

The dates are tentative, but so far it looks like May 26, with www.TEAM-Racing.com.

I've got Reno-Fernley video I need to post. I'm looking for a server. I shouldn't post them up at work anymore.

Update.

The Buttonwillow track day with TEAM Racing is on May 29, a Friday. I'll be there.

Sign-ups are a little low at this point so you'll gets lots more open track.

Here's a driver's guide to the track (counter-clockwise): http://www.pca-ggr.org/pdf/bw-counterclockwise.pdf

Here's a link to the track's web site: http://www.buttonwillowraceway.com/
