I want to learn about autox

being an experienced autocrossers, maybe you can clear up my confusion. i just got my first car over the christmas break and im damn eager to try out autocrossing. what class would my car be in? im stock with the addition of an intake. what are the differences between DSP, STS, SP?
Well, All VTEC preludes now run in what I believe is D Stock if you are gonna run stock. But you would need rcompounds to be competative. Then it will also be hard to be competative stock as you are not allowed to add a lsd or anything like that and still have to go against cars that have them installed from the factory, ie, Integra Type R, WRX, etc. However, I believe your Intake will kick you out of stock class anyways.

I recomend you start in, NOVICE. Novice is a class where you start in when you first go. It has all kinds of cars in it, but they are all equal because all of the drivers are novice in ability. You have to leave novice after three events running that class or when you win, whichever comes first. Everyone will help you out in this class and you will get pointers. You even will probably get a drive thru in your car after the drivers meeting.

AFTER you go to novice, I think STS would be a good place to continue to learn. It allows you to run street tires as STS is Street Touring Street tires. It is a very competative class filled with good drivers and it has a great comradery as the ST guys usually have their own circle of friends within the autox circle of friends, lots of Hondas in ours.

DSP and SP are pretty much the same. SP is Street Prepared and DSP is D Street Prepared, a division in the class. This class allows you to have more mods than STS and you will probably need rcompounds to be competative. It is a good step up from STS and has great compitition as well. And with the disbanning of STR, a lot of those guys are going to DSP, so there are only gonna be that many more in the class. When there were only a few in the class, it is a harder class to the degree, if there are two good drivers, trophies are gonna be harder as there are not enough in the class to get more trophies for the class.

All mods allowed for the classes and what cars are in those classes can be found in the SCCA rule book, or this website - however the website seems to not be completely updated as far as cars in classes as of right now.

Also, there is a great bit of information for getting started in autoxing period as a novice in the novice handbook:

Just remember to go and have fun and remember to try club racing as well.

One of the easiest ways is to go to www.scca.com and click on the "Find a region near you" link, and follow the steps for your area

Both 5th Gens run in D-Stock for stock classes, and if in street prepared they both run in DSP, the only time they run in different classes is in ST, the Base can run in STS, but the SH goes to STX because of the ATTS

Nope, unless your region has bumped your car to GS for their purposes. Regions can class cars however they wish, but for the most part, they follow SCCA guidelines, which place all iterations of the 5th Gen Prelude in DS.

I believe the Non-VTEC 4th Gens are in GS...there may have been a misunderstanding there.
