Thank you for taking the time to contact us about the new Hankook Ventus Z212 tire.
The Ventus Z212 is a Z-rated tire, UTQG: 200/AA/A that will be available late in the third quarter of this year, so approximately mid-August. The initial sizes that we're looking to have in stock are as follows:
Cool, nice to see another vendor make some competative sizes, good for the Lude and P-car. I wonder how these will stack up against say a Kuhmo in performance and price...

Bringing back from the dead. It's late 3rd quarter 2004. Anybody heard anything new about these tires? I'm looking for tires for next season and want to find an alternative in case Falken does not make the Azenis Sport in 225/45-16 (I've heard one yay, and one nay).

Another bump. I wrote to Hankook about this tire and got the following response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us, and thank you for your interest in Hankook Tires. The Ventus R-S2 (Z212) will be available for sale in the US approximately February of '05. The availability date was pushed back a few months to help production get up-to-speed with the expected demand for the tire.
We will be selling the 225/45 16 as you requested.
I'll hang on to your email address, and get you any updates on the tire as soon as we have them. Our website will also have all the updated information.

As long as they are to market by March I think I know what tires I am going to run in next season. Yes we don't know what the compound will be like, but I can't pass up that perfect size.

Yes you can. Max tire width for STX is 245, but that size has a larger O.D., therefore your gear ratio hurts a little. What I think it would be the best (in terms of max out the allowable width in the class, and keeping the O.D. very similar to the stock O.D.) is the 245/35/17 size. If I have some $$$ left after the motor rebuild, I might try that route.
OT: I miss my car!!!

The question becomes is the 225 Hankook really wider than the 215 Falken Rt-215?
We all know the Azenis RT-215 were a good bit wider than the average tire of the same size...I have even put my 215/45-16 Azenis next to my 215/40-17 Goodyears, both on 7in rims, and the falken is a good 3/8 in wider, which is almost a full 10 mm. In short, the 215/45-16 Falken is close to if not as wide as most 225s you will find, remains to be seen if the 225 Hankook will be much of a width improvement. Vincent, let us know if you try out the 245/35-17 and make it work or not, I may get a set of shaved FK-451's if I know they fit
Don't forget that taller tires also raise the ride height and limits suspension travel.
That being said, I don't think 24.5 OD will hurt much, on a track, but at an autocross, I think it's more of an issue.
If you're looking for a wide tire, run a Hoosier. The 225/45/15 Hoosier R and A series S04 tires run 9.6" wide, which is a good 1/2 wider than most 225s. I'm going to try 225/45/15 Hoosiers for track use, but the tire might be too small to handle the heat. If that doesn't work, I'll go with a 225/50/15 Kumho V710.
I can actually compress the front suspension enough that the upper control arm contacts the unibody, and the tire (225/45/15) will still turn! 225/50/15s don't do that since they're a slightly larger OD, but still, I was surprised.
