Coated SS brake lines

Haven't found any for a 4th gen. Anybody know of any? Stoptech makes them but only for 5th gens Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think russell, goodridge, or technafit are coated.

russell's aren't coated either.

i want to say neuspeeds are? i don't even know if they make lines, but that's the only name that's coming to mind right now...

the coating prevents wear and tear. road grit will work it's way under the steel braid and wear away at the rubber lines, which is why in general SS lines should be replaced every 2 years. uncoated lines will prob last longer, however given the risk reward ratio of failing brakes vs. saving a couple of bucks, it makes sense.

Are you sure the two aren't interchangeable? Seems like they'd be pretty close . . .

The price for them on Stoptech's site isn't too bad - $146 . . . but does anyone know of a good online distributor that might have them for less?

It's an exterior vinyl coating over the SS - keeps grit, grime, & brake dust from working it's way into the braided mesh & deteriorating the teflon inner line.

How often should SS lines be replaced? I've had my Goodridge lines for 5 years now and they look fine but I wonder if I should replace them as preventative maintenance.

Same here, they still look good too.. I really should change them, as much abuse they have had.. Its cheap insurance

I've never heard anything concrete, but every 3 years seems to be a general consensus. And it's obviously going to depend on how much you drive, and in what conditions.

just buy a roll of the biggest diameter heatshrink and put it over the hoses before you install them. add heat to make them shrink down. it'd keep the grit and grime down and i don't see how it'd hurt performance.

Yeah, 300+ degree brake fluid isn't gonna play very nicely with heatshrink.
