Carbotech Panther +'s

So there's a Carbotech group buy going on, and I'm wondering if I should grab a set of these pads for the front. I did some searching, but information is old and scattered so I thought I'd ask again.

Daily driving + autox + a few track days in my stock 94 Prelude Si. I run UTGQ 200 tires but I don't plan on running R's anytime soon. I did my first track day with Axxis Ultimates all around, and they held up fine. My local track is Thunderhill, which IMHO is fairly brake-intensive.

Would Panther Pluses be overkill for my next set? I'm a little worried about noise/longevity, but maybe there's a payoff in track performance.

I'm sure you've already seen this, but just to throw it up:

http://www.carbotecheng.com/prod-ct-compounds.htm

I don't have any personal experience with the pad but I have heard good things about them. But to tell the truth they aren't all that different compared to the Ultimates that you're already running. Ultimates have a temp range of ambient - 950F while the P+ go from 150-1250F. So you're just moving the range up a little bit. It really depends upon what you want as your first priority track or street driving? Since the P+'s do squeak and dust just as bad as the Ultimates and you need to give them a second to warm up when you do stomp on them for the street.

Pads are something that's quite easy to change, and if you get a track set of wheels/tires makes it even easier to change since you're already swapping out the wheels. I'd keep what you have now until you have some fade issues with it and then decide what you want to do at that point. Esp since your car should have enough ground clearance to add in some ducting to the brake calipers to take away some of the heat for your track days. In the end I'd say don't fix what ain't broke, but what do I know. I have a set of OEM, Cobalt Friction GT-Sports and Cobalt Friction Spec VR's in the garage. lol

If you search for it on H-T autocross/roadrace section you'll find some reviews of the compound.

these pads handle heat way better than the ultimates.
for the street i would say they dont heat up enough to use them well. it takes about 2 stops on the track before they get up to temp.

btw i have some used ones for sale cheap if you interested

How much is the group buy? Have you checked out the Cobalt Spec-VRs?

The group buy is 20% off the prices posted on this website:
http://www.carbotecheng.com/appguide-pads.htm

But you should let me know in the next day or so if you want to get in on it.

Pads will be shipped soon to the organizer in Citrus Heights (Sacramento area).

I run the Panther + up front and like them a lot. I've used them for only about 4 track days so far, but I am confident in them. As for using them as a daily pad, I'm sure you can get away with it. Keep in mind they are super dusty. Moreso than other pads I have run. I ran them for a week or 2 on the street when I was too pooped to swap pads and they were fine - as long as I kept in mind that they need to heat up before I could really rely on them.
