Can you still get the same H22 power with the vtec removed?

Hello Folks,

I know it's a sin but the SCCA will only allow a non vtec H22 or H23 prelude into the GT-2 class. Can you get the same power from the engine as with vtec? I'm running chrome now on a P72. Would I need to change the ECU or just re-tune it? Of course all this will throw me into H-1 for NASA but just thinking for next year. I want to do some SCCA National Races. ITR/S are not considered National and not at all National events.

If you can't have vtec, I'd seriously give this a look. Very cheap build too.

There's nothing magic about VTEC -- it's simply a way to widen the power band by allowing dynamic changes to the cam profile. With a race car, you're trying spending your time in a pretty narrow rev range anyhow, so losing VTEC shouldn't be a big deal.

You could run a set of VTEC eliminator cams, and in the process switch to Ferrea or RLZ roller rockers. That would give you a pretty wicked top end.
