Nope, just a lowly Base...Assuming the Base and SH models have the same
fuel tank (pretty sure they do) how low do you run your tank? I was just
starting to experience the problem, again on Friday, and filled up with a bit
over 12 gallons. (Unrelated, but I may have only gotten 200 miles...which
would be bad news.)
it depends on when I have time to run a few miles down the road from the track to fill up, lol. When i start getting down to 1/4 of a tank left, it's time for gas. However, this last happened on a completely full tank of gas, so I'm eliminating fuel level as the source of the problem.f
Ali, on one of my trackdays at Gateway, I started the day with a full tank, but ran the SH until late in the day when I got to the low fuel warning....probably not the smartest thing to do (our friend CG can confirm this). I didn't get a power loss even at that point though.

I've had this happen when going straight, but immediately following a turn and in a moment where the drop in elevation following the turn was greatest (just after T9 at Thunderhill), which was also when my steering was really light. Plenty of negative G's I guess. I described the problem to a number of the more experienced drivers and instructors at the track that day and they though I was crazy. I had plenty of fuel.
When this started happening, on another date, in a sharp high-G's (0.9-1.0+ G's) turn (T14-15 at T'hill, a right-hander), and I could repeat this one at will, I checked oil, topped off, and the problem disappeared. A few years later, the problem showed up again, and it even started happening in T12-13, and when I checked the oil, it was really low. I had had the car serviced the day before and thought they had changed the oil. Two months later... new mains and a baffled oil pan.
One thing about the fuel hypothesis is that the fuel lines hold a fair bit of fuel, so if you've got fuel starvation I'd think it would happen soon after the turn, not in the turn, depending on how long the turn is, I suppose. Also, I've run many laps low on fuel, even with the yellow light on, and never had an issue with this when oil was good. Of course, nearly empty while track driving will read 1/8 tank when you park.
Two months later... new mains and a baffled oil pan.
Have you ran it on a road course since then? Did these alleviate the issue? Curious where you got a baffled oil pan...I've not found one for a Prelude anywhere, unless I have one custom made.

I've been back to the track three-four times since getting it put in. Everything seems to be good, but then again I'm also watching my oil levels more closely.
John at Evil Genius Racing made it for me. I think he just put a door or something in it. I never got to see it before they reassembled the car. I can get more info if you want, or just contact him. He's in West Sacramento, CA. Google will find you his contact info.
Thanks for the head's up. If you see my thread in OT, my Prelude's motor crapped out last weekend. I'll definitely keep it in mind as I'm rebuilding mine to run again.

I may definately be in the market for a baffled oil pan....we'll see how this season coming up at the track goes. I won a four-point cage at one of the DE's last summer, so I can't decide whether to put that in the Prelude or trade it for a baffled pan (or two....one for me and one for Keith)
