For those with HARD WATER...how do you wash your car?
I have extremely hard water at my house (we dont' have city water...our water comes from our well). We DO have a water conditioner but that's still not enough. I always take my car to the automatic car wash just because it's too much of a pain to handwash. I'd need at least another person to help me.....after i rinse they have to dry it right away.
So the automatic car wash isnt' that bad since they powerwash it before it goes it so it's cleaner than most carwashes from the get go. then I go home and detail it right away (clay bar, polish, wax).
I've tried the Mr.Clean car wash thing...and i still get WATER MARKS...that's how hard my water is. It's pretty much a PUR water filter on it.
carwash. culligan man said my water was a 9 of 10 in the hardness. i don't bother. i see what my water does to facects/toilets. that stuff all needs to be replaced once a year, so i go to the carwash. =/

+1..no one knows our pain. lol.
Maybe we should take pics of what it does to our faucets.
Try Protect All Quick N' Easy Wash. It's basically a way to wash your car without a hose, and you can dry your car in sections since you wash the car in sections. I use it since I wash my car in an apartment where a hose isn't accessible, and it's definitely been an answer to my prayers in many ways more than one.

Thanks man..i'll give that a shot...it KILLS me to send the car through the automatic car wash.
I feel your pain. The water in Davis, CA is hard as marbles. It's full of chlorine too and tastes like a swimming pool. So I wash my car in the Bay Area whenever I'm there. But if I have to wash it for some reason in Davis - like before a track day - then I'll use the pay self-wash. It's not like I have to worry about washing it before a date though. The Prelude Curse takes care of that.

I live in north, NJ. The water here I dont know if its hard, but water spots appear very quickly. I guess thats what we are talking about her? I went to walmart, looking for a fitting for the hose, when I found this stuff called turbo wash. It smells like the vanilla tree people hang in their car mirrors, and it drys on its own with out spottage. I couldn't belive my eyes, I went in my house for a phone call and came out to find my car had 80% dried on its own with in maybe 10 minutes and no spots were found. I dried it anyway, and it came out looking terrific no more spots. It came in a box with a pressure nozzle, Im not sure if it can be found by itself or not .

Similar to the MR.Clean car wash product??
I've tried that twice and I STILL get water spots. My water SUCKS.
I'll try what KB798 said to use...seems like it's the answer
My method is more on the cautious side to minimize marring, but if you follow the directions on the bottle it'll work as well. I've used a 100% cotton chenille mitt too, but it would stain pretty badly. When I tried using a microfiber towel, the dirt just literally comes out of the towel when I rinsed it. I would spray a section of the car before I washed it to help with the cleaning process, so that again, it would minimize the marring.
This tutorial is smiliar to what I do, and it's also a good reference:
