Steam cleaner for engine bay

Hello all.

Been searching around the forums and I am ready to steam clean my engine bay. Anybody have experience with a particular machine that did a good job? I'm looking into perhaps purchasing a small unit for regular clensings.

Personally I would not clean my engine with steam. The reason why I am saying that is because steam is extremely thin and will penetrate everywhere including wire harnesses etc. and can cause them to corrode. If you want to wash your engine regularly, I would invest in a pressure washer instead. I use a pressure washer to clean my engine and I do not encounter any problems. If you have a Meguiar's distributor in your area, I would get some Meguiar's Super Degreaser which is excellent for cleaning engines.

If you need to know more PM me.

I had always heard that people had damaged sensors etc. when using a pressure washer. But if it comes recommended from a fellow luder, I guess I'll have to give it a try

Do you set it on low pressure or do you have a fixed pressure unit? Any guidance would be appreciated.

As far as the Meguiars, there are a few national car parts chains around here that carry their stuff. I'll have to stop in and have a look.

Just like golfluder01 said, just set the stream to be wide and you should be fine. Use your judgment, in other words don't blast 1 inch away from the wire harnesses etc and you won't have any problems.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks guys! I will be doing this with my 3-step this weekend (paint is pretty bad). Perhaps I will post before and after pictures.

don't forget the clay bar. If you've never done it before, then you need to.
