Need some advice...

So, it's supposed to be really nice this weekend here in Northern VA and I decided to wash/wax my car this weekend since it's been a long-ass time.

Anyways, I've never really waxed a car myself and was wondering what I should use and how to get the best results by hand. I just picked up Meguiar's Color X since my Milano Red paint is starting to fade on the trunk, hood etc. and I've heard good stuff about it. I also picked up the Mequiar's Gold Class car wash since it was on sale.

Here's what steps I was thinking of doing:

1. Wash car with Dial to remove any wax/polish.
2. Wash car with Meguiar's Gold Class car wash.
3. Dry car.
4. Apply Meguiar's Color X to car and wait 20 min.(what should I apply the wax with?)
5. Buff wax off and take her for a spin.

Does this sound right, did I miss anything, any suggestions?

I just picked up the Mother's Clay Bar as well. I hope it comes out good.

Varun, you're on the right track, but if I were you I'd change a couple of things:

1. Wash car with Dial to remove any wax/polish.
If you mean dishwash detergant then that's ok - I wouldn't wash with a Dial bar soap though

2. Wash car with Meguiar's Gold Class car wash.
This step wouldn't be necessary if you already washed the car with something stronger. I could see why you'd want to, but I'd use the Gold Class car wash as a clay bar lube instead

3. Dry car.
Before drying the car, I'd use either quick detailer spray that was included in the clay package, or use a mixture of water and the Gold Class car wash as the lube instead. The only caveat I forsee from personal experience is that when using the Gold Class car wash as a lube for claying, it'll disinegrate the clay faster as you're using it.

4. Apply Meguiar's Color X to car and wait 20 min.(what should I apply the wax with?)
I would apply the Color X with a foam applicator, and buff off with a quality microfiber towel. Apply in linear directions going with the flow of wind on the car, and buff off in the same fashion.

5. Buff wax off and take her for a spin.
I'd throw on another coat of just regular wax to really bring out the shine and gloss in the car as well as to protect it after buffing off the ColorX. You'll appreciate the hard work you put in more at the end after this part

Brian, thanks for the help.

I had a few follow-up questions.

1. I don't have any Dial, or Dawn soap at the house. Can I just use any type of dish washing liquid, or do i specifically need Dial?

2. I got the Quick Detailer with the Mothers Claybar, so should I just use this instead? It does indicate on the box not to use water so I'm assuming this would be the more effective option?

Thanks again Brian, hopefully I can wash it this coming week as I had some things I had to this weekend.

BTW: Here's what I picked up this weekend from the part store.

1. Any diswashing liquid soap is fine - go for whatever smells the best

2.The Quick Detailer is fine, but using water by itself as a lubricant won't work too tell. I personally use a mix of Optimum No Rinse + Quick Detailer + Water as my clay lube because I also use that mixture to wash my car since I don't have a hose.

The NXT tech wax is good stuff
