The best thing to use if you have deep stains is one of those vacuum cleaners that spits out water then sucks it up (sorry I don't remember the technical name). If you have one of those or can borrow one from a friend, just get a scrub brush and some warm soapy water and soak the carpet and scrub away with the soapy water, then suck up the dirty water with the vacuum and scrub it some more if necessary. Only do this if you have a vacuum that is made for sucking up water though (common sense)

If you don't have access to one of those vacuums, then the next best thing would probably be to get some carpet cleaner from the auto parts store or Wal Mart. Its in a metal spray can with a bristled top (looks like a plastic brush on the top of the can). Just scrub the carpet with the bristled end and push the "trigger" to release some of the cleaning solution while you are scrubbing. This should work pretty good. I think after the stuff dries up, you can vacuum it with a normal vacuum cleaner. The cleaning solution should foam up and draw the dirt from the stain up to the surface then you can vacuum it up when it dries. Just follow the directions on the can and you should be able to get most if not all of the stain out.

Meguiars is definitely my favorite line of detailing products.
When it comes to carpet though, I use Blue Coral Dri Clean.
It can be found anywhere, its a foam that lifts dirt out.
Best thing to do is spray it on wait a few minutes and scrub. Then use a powerful vacuum to go over it. It may take a few times but it hasnt failed me yet.
