Meguiar's Tire Glaze on an old truck's body?

Yesterday, I'd applied Meguiar's Tire Glaze on my tires and used an applicator that was ready to go in the garbage. I'd run out of the tire glaze, too; I threw both in the garbage.

I wake up today and my dad asks me, "What's on that applicator you threw out? Whatever it is, it's doing wonders for my truck." I go out to look, the paint on my dad's truck, which was faded almost beyond recognition of the color it was, is now glossy like the day he bought it 20 years ago.

He took the applicator pad that was covered in the tire glaze and put it on his truck! I told him it was for tires, not painted surfaces, like the bottle says; he just stared at me with a smile and says, "But it worked." This can't possibly be good, right?

hmm... well first obviously like you said, the product isnt made for painted surfaces. As for negative effects it may have, im really not sure. But i guess since its a neglected old truck, it couldnt really do much worse.

Im guessing if anything, first the paint will slightly absorb the oil from the gel and i dont think that will do much harm. second, its gel... its likely to collect dust and dirt on your dads truck and making it dirty really quick. Other than that im not sure what else it will do... if i read the ingredients i might have a slightly better clue

Oh, I will keep you guys updated, I want to see how this turns out.... I still say he shouldn't have done it, but it's an old work truck, aesthetics aren't important to him.

I'll post the ingredients next chance I get, though even if we determine it's alright for paint, I still won't be using it on my car, I'd rather just use polish and wax...

This is what the truck looks like a few days after:

The effect has faded a little, but it still looks good. The oily residue of the tire gloss has attracted dust and dirt.

Looks good... but I'm afraid to buy more tire gloss 'cause my dad WILL use it on his truck.
