MY stock side skirts look grey and stained white and all sorts of gross. I want them to be black.
The panel under my window wipers, is faded to grey, I want it back to Black.
The front has a small lip, thats just not as black as it should be I guess, I want that black too.
The trim around my windows and doors etc.. is al faded to grey, I want it back to black. Some of it is rubber, there may be some plastic I'm forgetting but Is there a cleaner / restorer which I can use to make my faded parts BLACK again. I'm trying to make it all look brand new here, and it's hard to do with all these plastic parts looking crummy.
Anybody have any product suggestions, or experience with any, please let me know what is good, and whats not if you know. Thanks ~ Brett
I'm great at spray painting things, but I wony spray paint plastic pieces. I want a product with a black dye in it, which will recolor them to look natural. By the way, I cant spray paint the ruber around my windows, that needs to be refinished too. Thanks for the suggestion though Paul. ~ Brett
(I did spray the windshield wiper arms black, because they were totally silver from being weathered over the past 10+ years.)
I used Rust-o-leum on my window trim and it's been great so far. Once in a while it'll start to fade so I use Klasse Vinyl, Leather, Rubber & Plastic-Cleaner/ Protectant to make it shiny again.
krylon fusion. I know you said you won't use spray paint but if you haven't tried the fusion you are missing out. Lots of jeep owners use it to repaint their fender flares since it is specifically designed for plastic. I used it when I had flares and it worked out well. It is worth it.

Here you can see the side skirts at least, they are all grey and white looking because the die in the plastic or what ever is either worn out, or probably stained too from the years.
I thought about painting them, since i have plenty of experience with fusion, but i am not impressed with how fusion weathers. My car is an out door vehicle, and I drive on roads with rocks and sand and all sorts of abrasive materials. It would be very hard to get paint to not chip off unless i really layed it on thick.
We'll see, I haven't been able to hit a store up yet and i have so much to do to this darn car.
I found back to black, and forever black, ill probably try one of those first and maybe spray if those dont hold up.
That sucks, I thought it was a potent dye which would absorb into the plastic, keeping it nice and black for a while. Ok, I'm probably going to paint the skirts black then or color matched to the car, one or the other. The window trim and stuff can get the back to black treatment, i dont mind re-applying it there often.
I live in Phillipsburg, lol I see you are Bedminster, I could take a ride there.. PM me with your addy so I can mapquest it, or lemme know when and wheres a good place to meet up? I gotta do something, those skirts are nasty. (so is most of my car, but at least the black will be black again) I hope.

OH yeah you're in phillipsburg..like 20-30 min. away. Exit 26 on Rt.78...2 minutes off the exit if that. =)
Is it wax on the side skirts? If so put some peanut butter on there and it should clean them up real nice. The black molding on my 92 accord (the stuff that runs along the car near the middle of the doors) was all discolored from age and wax buildup. I heard of the peanut butter trick and tried it out. Worked like a charm as those things looked brand new, but it sure was a pain in the ass.
Those things were kinda rubbery, so I'm not exactly sure if the harder skirts will have the same results.
