Just got my '97 painted, now what?

So I went ahead and had my black '97 SH painted with the stock color. Looks awesome and like it just rolled off the lot. I love it!

So now what? Do I need to polish and wax it? Is polish required on a new paint job? I'm worried that waxing it may introduce swirl marks or something, although you can't avoid those for ever I suppose.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

True, only if the the paint hasn't been cured. I'd give it a month or so before putting anything on the car or even washing it, and let it sit outside under the sun as much as possible. If the car has put into an oven, then you probably don't need to polish unless the car has swirls, but just put wax or other sealant on it to protect it.

Okay, thanks. I haven't washed it for a few days now, but I think I'll rinse off some of the dust today. I'll hold off on the wax for a bit longer.

a month is overkill - I've had professionals tell me 2 weeks is enough to let any volatile compunds escape from the paint.

you shouldn't need any kind of polish or gloss/depth enhancement for a year or so. Just use a high quality carnuba wax to seal in the nice finish
In the meantime, soap/water should get you by.

Wouldn't it be fair to say that it's better to be safe than sorry? I've heard 2 weeks too, but waiting an extra two weeks isn't going to hurt - only better. Without knowing exactly what process the car was painted, it's hard to make an accurate gauge as to just how long you should wait.

Polishing for oxidation or things like that isn't necessary, but marring is bound to happen unless extreme car is taken .
