How to remove scratch

When I was backing out of my driveway, I had to go around my girls car and I rubbed up against a bush and it made a scratch. It is on the clearcoat so I tried swirl remover and it didn't work. Anyone have a good product to use?

What kind of swirl remover did you use and how did you apply it?

It was meguiars swirlf remover. I applied it onto a detailing pad and used my hand. I used a circuliar motion and then wiped it off with a detailing rag

Can you feel the scratch with your fingernail? If so, then using a polish is pretty much useless because the scratch is too deep. You'd have to use touch-up paint with wetsanding or repaint the entire panel.

No I can't feel it with my fingernail. I would have thought that swirl remover would have done the trick but it didn't work. I wll try meguiars polish tomorrow.

Which Meguiar's polish are you going to be using? If you're going to try to remove a scratch by hand, you're definitely going to have a tough time ahead of you. Use a 100% terry cotton towel and fold it into 1/8ths. Apply firm, even pressure going in one, straight direction. Since your car is silver it won't be as hard as trying to remove a scratch on a black car, but if you can't remove the scratch then try using an orbital buffer or a rotary buffer if you've had experience with one.

The swirl remover is too mild (if you are talking the black bottle). Try Meguiars Swirl remover 2.0 on the beige bottle. It is still mild but more abrasive than the other. If that doesn't work, soak some 2000 uni-grit sand paper for 24 hrs, lightly sand the clear and then use the swirl remover to take out the sand marring. Should look good as new.

This scratch is on my BLACK lexus haha so I guess I am going to have a hard scratch to remove. I will try my buffer. I don't really want to sand it because if it scratches it even more I might have to pay for it when I return it from lease.

It would depend on the car, and how comfortable the detailer is on wetsanding. Generally factory paint jobs have a thinner clearcoat layer than aftermarket paintjobs, so I would imagine that many detailers would rather not wetsand on a factory paint job. That isn't to say that all aftermarket paint jobs have thicker clearcoats - just as long as the owner of the car knows how many coats are on there.

Any "good" Detail shop or small damage repair shop would be able to take it out easily and flawlessly. Most scratches (if not to the primer or metal) can be polished with a cutting compound.
