How to remove oil and dirt in engine bay?

well I finally decided to clean the engine bay and try to do something nice looking with it but the problem is that the previous owner of the car had the engine bay sprayed with oil to prevent it from rusting (I don't know what he was thinking) and now it's all dirty. What would you guys recommend to clean that?? Thanks

whoa, thats a very difficult problem there... oil all over the place under the hood? u need to be more specific as in what parts are covered in oil. and if u know what kind of oil it will be even better.

taking oil out is not only painstalking to begin with but with extreme temps and differnt parts in the engine bay (plastics, metals, rubber, etc.) its hard to tell u exactly what to do to clean it all.

i suggest u simply do a search in this forum and look up old posts about engine bay cleaning.

well sure it is, but obviously it inst good if too much water gets arond electrical components. but everything in the engine bay is made tuff to withstand differnt weather conditions including downpoors when u might have to pop ur hood caus of engine problems...

more back to the subject, some pros like to steam clean their engine bay. its fast and pretty efective with no use of harsh checmicals.

well not really engine parts but under the hood it's all dirty and all the metal/body parts under the hood as well. I tryed with WD-40 and a towel but it would take like a day or two to do it. I thought that maybe somebody knew a better way to do it.

sounds like no matter what u use u r gona have to spend alot of time and effort cleaning it to ur desired appearance. degreasers off all kinds can help.. wd40 isnt bad either. simple green is a good product too. but its really up to urself to just use the time to clean it so good luck!
