Do a thorough wash, polish, and use a sealant. It'll protect your paint more than just waxing it after washing it thorougly. If you don't have the time, put on a couple layers of wax at the very least. When you wash the car, use car soap and do the best you can. Also, make sure to dry the car thorougly so you don't have any water spots that could eat through your clearcoat under the sun. A month isn't really a long time compared to a daily driver that sits ouside in the sun everyday, but protecting the surface is indeed important.

What about the stuff that the car manufacturers put on the paint as the car comes out of the factory to protect the paint as the car is sitting outside while it waits to be shipped or the warehouses where cars are stored. I was thinking that if the car isn't going to be driven then you could wax it and leave the wax on? IE not buff it off?

Car manufacturers use industrial strength wax like Collinite or other products that require strong cleaners like kerosene or something. There's a difference between the wax that's available to the mass consumer market and the wax that manufacturers put on the cars to product them during shipping and storage. Imagine it to be a thick, gooey substance that's almost like candle wax.

When you apply car wax to your car, you need to buff it off as it dries so that it provides optimal protection and shine. Not buffing it off will leave a residue and can streak the surface over a period of time.
