Dirty Steering Wheel

On my 98 Prelude, the leather wrapping on the steering wheel looks dirty (light colored blotches all over it). Is that dirt or just wear? If it's just dirt, what should I use to get it off. It looks like ****.

Thanks!

It could be mold if it's light colored but it's hard to tell without seeing it. You could try some leather cleaner or auto interior polish. If it's wear, I doubt anything could fix it.

Wow...that pretty bad looking. Is there something on the leather or is the leather gone in that area?

Anyway mine was looking a little dirty so I took a good amount of leather cleaner and massaged it into the leather and then took some conidtioner and let is soak in the leather for a few min - result was a softer, cleaner, and blacker wheel. Keep in mind that I already tried the conditioner on my dads car leather and it didn't make it slipery...be careful and make sure you pick a conditioner that doesn't make the leather slippery if you're planning to use on the wheel.

Something is on top of the leather, it's not gone. When you cleaned yours, was it that color?

Just put on a Civic Si wheel. Problem solved. Our Lude wheels are too skinny anyway..

BTW, if you use leather conditioner be careful. The sticky residue after using it will then "pull" all the dirt from your hands from that point on and the wheel will be DIRTIER than when you started..

I found some BlueMagic Leather & Vinyl cleaner in my garage today and tried that. OMG, it looks brand new again! All it was was dirt; it just wiped right off.

^^I wondered that too. Whenever I was searching for SH's all I saw were the two-toned steering wheels. My old 4th gen VTEC was all black.

2 tone HAHAHAH...lets face it guys are cars are all at least like 5 years old now, its because the center plastic piece has faded severely.

I have the Car & Driver long term test of the 5th gen prelude and they complained that the plastic airbag cover faded from black to grey in less than 12 months...thanks Honda.

You would think both plastic covers would be made out of the same material.

My 4th Gen. airbag cover seemed to have a film over it when I was detailing the lude this weekend. Turns out it was dirt from my hands, wiped with a little 303 Aerospace and it looks like new.

Oh, and my airbag cover is still all black... 4th Gens rule!
