Cleaning inside Engine

Im not quite sure if im in the right thread? But here goes.

Inside my engine where my CAI is, there is this dirt buildup...From afar, it just looks like dust that's not cleaned off, but when you touch it, you can tell that the dust seems like its crusted onto the intake itself. I tried a lot of things, but i cant seem to get it off.
What do u guys think it is and what can i do to clean it up???

Thanks in advance

Re: Cleaning inside Engine

Can you take a picture of it? What kinds of things have you done so far to take off the buildup? Well, first off take a look here:

Product Reviews & Detailing Techniques

Click on "Engine Bay Cleaning" and you'll find a lot more information there in terms what you can use. With that being said, I would suggest using a solution comprised of Simple Green and water, and spray it on the crusted area. Let it soak for about 3 to 5 minutes and then use a brush to scrub the area.

Oh I see what you mean. Yes, Simple Green can cause discoloration but there are many reasons as to why it can cause it. The mixture between water and Simple Green, how long you let it set on the paint, how hard you scrub, etc. You could try a small test area that is unnoticeable and see if the solution dscolors the paint. Start at a 25% Simple Green/75% water mixture and increase the Simple Green if you want.

You could use products like Orange Blast, which is a milder house cleaner. Again, mixing it water is fine as well in order to bring down the strength of the chemical. Always try on a test area to see if it'll discolor the surface first.
