cleaning around the SS middle console

since the silver paint looked a bit dull...nearly a copper color to it. I assumed it was dirt from my hands over all these years resting on it while I drive...Decided to clean it up a bit with a warm wet soft towel with no soap.

I barely was even scrubbing.. and silver flakes started pulling off the piece...
... now i got a scratchy looking pale yellow patch... where my hand usually rests.

Any recommendations? Anyone ever repaint theirs?
It definetly shows that I did alot of ware now.

When I had my stock shifter, the chrome bezel around the base of the shifter peeled, and exposed that same pale yellow you're talking about. I don't think there's anyway to fix that without repainting it...

I had the same thing happen... looked dirty, cleaned and paint came off...

I pulled it out and painted it a gunmetal color which compliments the rest of the theme in the car.

Im thinking about going to a print shop and getting a silver sticker designed over it...Maybe a micro-thin sticker overlay will do the trick.

I hate how it looks now. when the sun hits it... it makes the car look like its been abused.
