can you use any type of clay to clay bar or does it have to be a special type of clay, also if so where do you buy it? local car store?
No you can't not use any type of clay. It should be a detailers grade clay and you can find them at just about any auto parts store that sells detailing supplies. There are tons of store on the internet you can buy from as well.

There's different weights and granularity to detailing clay, but your local car parts store should carry what you would normally need. Mother's California Gold Clay and Meguiar's Gold Class Clay Clay are probably the most popular OTC options.
A better answer is "It depends". If you live in an industrial area and the rain has high acidic levels, the rain will penetrate through the layer of wax more quickly than "softer" rain, so to speak. However, this doesn't mean that you need to go out and re-apply wax everytime it rains - as long as you wash your car regularly (I like to do mine every 2 weeks if possible) and use wax everytime, you'll be fine. Pure beauty waxes like P21S or S100 only last about a week if your car is exposed to the elements all the time, so I'd be cautious.
