best product to dry with

is an absorber bad for the paint if you pull it over the surface and its mostly dry already?

what should i be using?

i tried MF towels but they seem to get wet real quick and then not pull up any water

Use MF towels. What kind were you using? You want a large MF waffle weave towel. Like this one:

Whether your using the Absorber, WW towels, MF towels, terry towels, if you're going to drag the across the surface of your car they all can do damage if they have embedded dirt and contaminents in them, or the surface already has dirt and contaminents on them that can be dragged.

I like to use both the Absorber and MF towels. True, the MF towels don't hold a lot of water like 100% cotton terry towels, but a quality MF towel will not marr the paint where as a cotton terry towel would. The best way to dry your car is to blot; it minimizes the chance of creating new swirls and scratches from dragging or wiping anything across the surface. However a clean, quality MF towel on a clean surface will not marr, unlike other cheaper MF towels and terry towels.

Using Towels to dry your car gives you swirls and scratches your paint?

Blotting takes too long since the water on the paint dries too quickly. Even in the shade this holds true for me.

You should try sheeting the water off before you start to dry. It reduces how many water spots there are on the car initially and makes the process a lot faster. Sheet the water off with your lose set to low pressure and just run it along the car.

Don't blot, just use a quality towel. There are plenty of products out there that won't scratch your car no matter how you dry it so long as there's no dirt left on the paint, you keep the towel clean, and it's a quality product.

The reason why I advocate the blot technique is because getting the surface 100% clean and pristine is next to impossible. There could be airborne contaminents that land on the paint as you're drying one section, and you can drag it along your paint unknowingly. Because of these unknown factors and microscopic particles that are extremely hard to see to the naked eye, blotting is your safest bet.

I use a terry towel because the thread or whatever you want ot call it tucks dirt a bit better, theres nowhere for it to go in an MF waffle weave towel really .. I lay my towel on my car, pat it down and then when everythings almost dry, I'll do the circular wipe (never using a lot of pressure) I wash my towel and my sheepskin mitt after every car wash to ensure theres no dirt. It works for me ...

There's nothing wrong with chamois. It's just that there are a lot better products out on the market that can do a lot more than a chamois could ever do.

Just to note: I will be getting new cloths to dry some day (soon I hope) from Griot's. They are big yellow waffle like towels.

Check out these two threads:

Anyone heard of "The Absorber" ???

Just got a California Water Blade

IMO, the Absorber is a better choice than the CWB.

Just pick up a cheap leaf blower. Works good and your car will be COMPLETELY dry (even the cracks) in about the same amount of time. No scratches either.

Did you get a 200mph one? Those are . Anyway, just make sure you're not blowing air that has a lot of contaminants in the air, like a dusty garage...'cause whatever comes out of the blower is whatever goes into the blower.
