Baked on brake grime - clay bar?

I've got brake dust baked on my wheels. I've tried scrubbing with simple green already and simple green just eats away at the wheels clear coat? What could I use for BAKED on brake dust. Would clay bar work?

Simple green should not eat away at the wheels clear coat unless you are using it concentrate. Try diluting it a little, spray on lightly, let it sit for a couple of mins (you'll see the brake dust melting out), then scrub & wash out with soapy water. If this doesn't work the first time you may have alot of brake dust piled on for awhile so do it a couple of times.

I'm not sure how effective a clay bar is gonna be but if Simple Green is still not working for you, try some other all purpose heavy duty cleaner (though I think it'll eat at your clear coat if it's too heavy duty).

Any all purpose cleaner will do the trick, but as long as you don't let it sit for hours at a time it won't eat away at your clearcoat to a point where it's going to peel anytime soon.
