Won't start

I was driving home from work today in my stock 91 2.05 si with a full tank of gas and I got less than a mile and the car lost all power and now it won't start. When I try to start it turns over and pops a bit out the tail pipe. I have checked and have good spark and good compression. I thought it might be the fuel pump, but I could here it when I turned the ignition on. I have not yet been able to get the bolts loose on the fuel filter. Could the filter cause this. Where is the easiest place to check and see if I am getting fuel? Any thoughts?

thanks

Matt

just loosen the 12mm bolt on top of the filter, that bolt is designed to relive fuel preasure. with it loose turn the key to the on position, fuel should squirt out.

you could have broke a timing belt, to check that, crank the motor with the oil cap off, look through the oil cap hole to see if the cams are turning.
Good luck

if the spark is good and good compression you didn't break a timing belt. so the most expensive part is out thank the Lord. When it comes to fuel systems... always start with the CHEAPEST and go to the most expensive. How ever I do have a stock OEM fuel pump on hand it comes down to it. Yes a clogged fuel filter could cause this. Is that the problem not sure, even a bad fuel pump whines when you turn the ignition on. So start by replacing the fuel filter when you have it off, do what bkl89 suggested, turn the ignition on and see if it shoots out fuel it will be ALOT not just a pissy stream but like a white water rapids, if it doesn't you need a fuel pump and NEVER change a fuel pump without changing the filter.

Good luck,
Brian

Thank for the replies. I was able to get the lines off the filter and there was fuel there. I also took off the line where is meets the fuel rail and I stuck that end in a glass and turned the key to the on position and it filled up the glass with about 1/3 of the way up with a smooth stream. Could it be the injectors. I can't figure how to get the electrical connectors off of the them to test. How about the main relay or would that not even let fuel get as far as it has.

Problem solved. The distributor rotor screw came out and the rotor spun around and was sending spark in the wrong order. I bought a new rotor and used loctite so hopefully it won't happen again.

Good fix and was going to be my first guess - then fuel relay.
