I'm assuming that you narrowed it down to coming from the AC compressor because it doesn't make that noise when the AC is off. Right?

It's not normal for them to make noise. There are normal sounds that they make, but it wouldn't be described as a noise. If you can hear it above everything else that is running, then I would not call that normal.

Because of the equipment necessary to work on AC systems, the best thing you could do would be to stop using the AC and take it to a shop to diagnose what your problem is. Since it's still working, you may be able to save the compressor. I would highly recommend that you don't try fixing it yourself if you don't know what you are doing and don't have the proper equipment. You will only make things worse.

Thanks for the intel...
It's strange because it only starts after the compressor heats up....

I don't have the money to have it checked so I just turned the idle up just a tiny bit till it stopped. Now at a light it isn't driving me crazy.

The old compressor just went up last week and I pulled this one from my doner car. The system was still charged from the doner...I figured it was a good one.

Guess I will run it till it implodes....I got the doner car for the 4ws on it.
Some day I will put it on my driver.
You know how that goes!
I have lots of extra parts if you need anything.

Thanks

So you swapped the compressor out? Did you evacuate the system after putting it back together? If not, you will have moisture in there which will eventually kill the compressor. Are you running r12 or did you convert it to r134a?

4ws on a 3rd gen is fantastic. It's a bit of work to install, but you'll be glad you did.

I'll keep you in mind if I need any parts. Where are you located?

Well, enjoy your AC while you have it. I don't think it will survive the summer, but maybe you'll be lucky.
