Why do Honda's run so long?

Curious. I'm a gear head to some extent and understand basic mechanics....
Are Honda's built so tight that they run longer?
I have a 89 Prelude that has 217k and never dirties the oil!
Amazing

Why would you take the time to create a user name just to post something like that?

I'd argue that the higher quality of OEM parts compared to other makes is the main reason Honda's last a long time. You would be hard-pressed to find any mechanical part on a Honda that has ever been near China.

In 1981 I bought a new 1981 Honda Accord 5 speed, LX Hatchback.
Just as in the case of the later model S2000, the car was in such demand at the time in large part because of its build quality relative to the other crap on the market like the Chevy Chevett , that their was a line on the invoice that read ADDITIONAL DEALER PROFITT..................THE AMOUNT AT THE TIME WAS $500 which was quite a lot for a car that had a list price of about $7800, but like many others, I gladly paid it.The car even had a sticker on one of the rear seat windows that said OK on it and the signature of the Honda quality tech that did the final check on the car written on the back of the sticker before it left the factory. I might also point out that the 5th gen Prelude, and maybe other model years, were only constructed only in Japan which may have helped maintain its build quality.Todays Honda's have devices like a check engine light, check ABS light, check ATTS light, service interval reminder, knock sensors and rev limiters that help to allow the car to protect itself from abusive users and engine mods.
