My 88 Prelude Si 4ws has some rust issues with the trunk lip. I have looked online at several Honda parts sites that list the part as not available. I would like to try and tackle this myself as a learning experience but I would like some advice. I have attached some pictures to help explain what I am talking about.

I've never seen rust in that area before. Does the rest of the car have any rust?

Unfortunately, in order to fix it right you're going to have to replace either the top portion of the rear pan, or the entire rear pan. Depending on how far the rust goes. And since these parts are no longer available from Honda, you'll need either a parts car or find a donor car at a junkyard and cut out the section you need. From what I've read, it's actually easier to replace the entire rear panel than just the top portion. You could possibly find someone to fabricate that piece for you, but it wouldn't be cheap.

i live in mn. the 88 ibought last week has rust where the doughnut sits.in fact there is a hole you could shove a baketball thruin that area. mite want to check that spot too.
