Strange sound...

Alright, this is kind of worrying me.. As of 2 nights ago I'm hearing this strange sound coming from my engine. It's definatley coming from the engine cuz it only happens when I rev or am driving.

I've never heard anything like it, it just kind of popped up. To me it sounds like water boiling or something, and as I was reading a write-up on how to advance your timing he said detonation sounds like marbles rattling around in a can. It somewhat sounds like that, but mine is a constant sound as long as I have the rpm's up a little bit.

I will probably have to bring it to a mechanic to see what it is, but I was just asking you guys in case one of you heard the same thing and knew what I was talking about. None of my freinds or dad know what it is..

By the way this happened the same day I got my new exhaust on if that means anything, i've got an intake also. I probably didnt describe the sound that well but that's all I can do. Thanks, peace.

could be your engine knocking....

Low grade gasoline (low octane) makes my engine knock a whole lot....i think it makes the same sound as your talking about.

Also, when my engine gets up at about 5000 rpm it makes a little different sound but it sounds like loose marbles also....i don't know if that's from gas or from a bearing or something, but it doesn't sound good either.

So put higher grade gas in there if you use unleaded and see if the sound goes away.

Thanks.. I think it may be the lifters knocking also, not sure tho. I'm putting in 88 octane, maybe I should go to premium? It's a pretty subtle sound.

pretty sure we do have lifters....that very well could be your problem, or you could have a loose valve or two...

If you put in 88 octane that should be high enough...doesn't sound like an octane problem then. Can't think of anything else that could be wrong off hand....Sorry

Check out this site
this site. It has some information on lifters as well as some do-it-yourself information.
