Which Service Manual?

How's things everyone.

I've got a 90/91 model with ALB (I think it's called a "Luxury Edition" not sure) and I'm looking to do some work on it, specifically the clutch and rear seal.

Just wondering which of the available manuals people think are the best to use for a job like that, Haynes or Helm or some other...?

I also need to do some work on the electrics, seems to be a slow leak somewhere that drains the battery if I'm not driving it regularly, so if one of those books can be recommended to work on that it would be handy too.

Cheers

I would not recommend using Haynes or Chilton for 3rd gens. Not only do they cover a range of generations and models, but I've read that there are errors in some of their torque specs. Not to be trusted.

I but the bullet and bought a factory service manual. They come up on ebay from time to time and are reasonably priced. I've read that you can buy them from Helms also.

For the clutch and rear seal job, you can use the online factory service manual in this link...
Honda Shop Manuals - 1988 Prelude

It's mainly for the 88 model, but the information will be the same for yours. Plus there are supplements for 89 and 90. This may not help you much for your electrical problem because a lot of that section seems to be missing from that link.

Finally, you should also check out www.Prelude3G.com for everything 3rd gen Prelude related. Good luck and welcome to your new addiction.

You can see if they are still available here.

Service Manuals, Owner Manuals, Wiring Diagrams, Service Bulletins - Helm Incorporated

This is where Honda Dealers get their shop manuals from. You can also order from them the OEM owners manual as well and it is where the dealers get them if a replacement is needed.

Nice one H4L, thanks.

There is a reprint manual available from the link you've provided, is it it a better option than the online factory service manual?

I would guess the same as the link I provided is the company that makes all the service manuals they use at Honda Dealerships. Helms manuals are the ones used at Honda dealers by the service techs.

Not Haynes or Chilton. They use Helms.

ok thanks again guys. So in summary, the Helms manual is the one to go for, and it is most likely the same manual contained in the link from Colfax.

Cheers
