Rear Spoiler for 1988

Hey guys,
New to the forum and to my recently accquired 88 Prelude with 58K on it! She was garage-kept and driven on weekends, etc...
Anyway, I wanted to install a lighted (basic model that may have looked like it came with it) spoiler because I think it would look, well, sportier. But, it already has a third brake light. So, do I remove the third brake light, leave it there, not get a lighted spoiler? Not sure and thought this would be a great place to get some insight.
Thanks!

theres many ways you could approach this.

you could:

1- get the spoiler and not hook up the brake light.
2- Get the spoiler & splice into the existing brake lights wiring (the one on the rear deck) & run both lights.
or
3-Remove the rear decks brake light, and run the wiring to splice into the new spoiler brake light.

if you do 3 though. when you remove the brake light on the rear deck theres just gonna be a empty space underneath where theres no carpeting. so you can either leave it like that or you could get a rear deck cover from a 90-91 that didnt have the deck light.

Thanks, Brett,
Do you know if there are any issues with having both thrid brake lights operating at the same time? Also, would the spoiler block (site lines) the OEM third brake light?
Thanks for your insight!
Todd

The only issue I can think of is that the LEDS on the lighted spoilers usually require 14.4v
and if you're running both off the same power source, it's likely to underpower the LEDs, causing them to burn out. You could however make a very simple regulator so that you're guaranteed to get enough power.
I suggest the LM317, you can get em at radioshack (online too) for a few bucks.
Also, I suggest doing some very mild research at HIDplanet.com and look under LEDs. You'll find out some basic info that's not too overwhelming.
