need a replacement vss, 90 prelude

Hi guys. I am having trouble finding a vehicle speed sensor for 90 lude, manual transmission.. any suggestions? Bought one on Ebay, had to return it, did not fit (even used VIN number to match). Dealer wants $200 ! crazy ! The one I have is longer than what they offer. Thanks...

Are you located in the US? If so, your car would have come with a d2a4 transmission. But it's kind of common for people to swap them out for a d2j3 or d2j5 transmission because they have a slightly taller 5th gear. The d2j3 and d2j5 came from 88/89 Preludes, which use a cable driven speedometer, and use a different vss. Take a look and verify that yours is a d2a4. If by chance your transmission has been swapped by a previous owner, you'll need to use the bottom half from your vss and mate it to the top half of the new vss.

If you do have a d2a4 transmission, then the ebay seller sold you the wrong vss. There is only one style as far as I know. You might be able to pick one up from a junkyard if there are any near you. Other than that, try looking on the Prelude forums and brows through any part-out threads for a vss.

VSS on 90 Prelude

Thanks Colfax. I got lucky. Since I couldn't find a new one or a used one at any junk yard, I ended up putting my old one back on yesterday. When I initially took it out, I noticed there was a little bit of used motor oil on the connection. I used brake cleaner and a couple of cottons swabs and put it back on. I crossed my fingers and test drove it. As of today, it's still working well. If I have future problems, I know what to do. I appreciate the help!

Good to hear that it was an easy fix. Thanks for the follow-up.
