Hi folks. Helping a friend of mine today replace the water pump and timing belt on his wife's Prelude. Tried everything under the sun to remove the crank pulley bolt. I "borrowed" a pic from another thread for illustration purposes. The outer pulley has a large hex opening. Is there a special tool which engages that opening to lock the crank so that the pulley bolt can be broken loose? We tried 1/2" ratchet, 1/2" impact wrench at 160lbs., hit it with a torch 2-3 times. Would be forever grateful for suggestions. EDIT: I say H22 only because of the similarity of the pulley in question to the pic I provided. I know only it's a Prelude. I do recall his pulley does not have those marks/openings as can be observed on the bottom of the pulley in the included pic.
thank you,

I just spent all day trying to get the crank bolt out. I needed a new impact wrench, so I bought one that had 650 ft/lbs of torque... it did nothing to loosen the bolt. I tried half a can of PB oil and even tried torching it for several minutes.
So I wound up using the breaker bar and a 4ft cheater bar and got it off. I had my wife stand on the break pedal while the car was in 5th gear to keep it from moving. When it broke loose... wow! it broke loose.
For me, I had to use someone elses compressor. The one my friend had just didn't have enough volume. We drove the lude to a shop, used the same impact wrench and it broke it loose on the first try.

Made a "specialty" tool and got it removed with an impact wrench. Got the car nearly completed, someone broke in the shop and totally destroyed the car with assorted hammers, pipes, etc. Thanks to all who replied. Little Honda car is no more.
Yeah, it was really something. Broke out all the windows and sunroof, stuck a knife through all the brand new Michelens. Mostly with the claw end of a claw hammer, walked all around the car and put approximately 75-100 "claw bashes" through the car. Around 20-30 areas looked like they were attacked with a 2" pipe. Did the same to his 4 wheeler and a 70 chevy pickup which had been restored and was finally at the primered stage. Pretty much everything in his shop that could be destroyed took a serious hit.
I have been using a 3/4 inch breaker bar with the right socket and an extansion pipe which is the aluminum handle to my floor jack to break these bolts loose. I also use a chain wrench around the smaller pulley to do it. I always strike the bolt with a BFH and then get the bar to extend out straight towards the front of car and do a sort of hop on it with my bent leg tucked under my other leg. Like one of those splash dives we called a jack knife.
If that don't work we try two guys and then we go borrow the big impact and compressor from the old man next door.
